Trump is a monster.

For all of the work that the team at #TheRinger put into this, it's a shame to see it result in something that feels so mid-brow & whitewashed. Such a bummer.

There needed to be actual stats involved. With so many platforms that provide ratings info - incl. # of viewers, critics sentiment & general public scores - this could have been more data-driven. Instead it is a list of Ringer contributors' feels. And that doesn't differentiate it from other lists.

Limiting the submissions to a single episodes per show is asinine. This harkens back to my previous objection, but you can't seriously believe that any ep of America's Next Top Model is as objectively well-crafted a thing as even the worst ep of Andor or Adolescence. It's just a silly argument.

First, the inclusion of reality TV is pretty stupid, IMO. There are good faith arguments as to whether unscripted fare is "good," but I just don't see The Sopranos and Jersey Shore are even the same kind of product. To me they're as different as TV vs. film. They deserve separate categories/lists.

Do we have a "lack of journalism" problem, or is everything just too fragmented & spread out? Do we need better collation?

A call out to @thepressbox.bsky.social (& @bryancurtis.bsky.social ): I'd love to hear your thoughts on the proliferation of long-form investigative journalism being done by independent folks on platforms like YouTube. Have they replaced the work by dead/dying trad media outlets?
