Teacher, feminist (yeah? wanna go?), former ALP candidate (over it), wannabe world traveller.
This will teach you not to rely on child labour.

Except it's not. Data centres in Australia provide international services, so while more power is used here, less is used elsewhere.
Ultimately it reduces emissions globally, which is what we're aiming for.
(AI is another, although connected, issue).

It was one example of many.
All businesses once required their own massive computers; now it's largely through data centres.

Because it's all in one place, the power usage is obvious - but less than it was when it was dispersed across households.
Data centres and AI are related but not the same, which is also an important distinction.

Heard an interesting take on this.
Data centres consolidate power usage e.g. instead of every home running a DVD player (with almost invisible usage, but cumulatively it mounts up) the data centre provides the movie instead.

Yeah, used to just be called good manners in my day...

What I like is when a guy like that actually talks to women and is dumbfounded to realise what they really want, rather than what he thinks they want...
December 4, 2025 at 11:14 PM
And yet the women are perfectly happy.

So this could be equally framed as "As we look forward to an Australia powered by unicorns, we will apply the same fantastical thinking to industrial relations, and achieve what we want without upsetting anyone..." #auspol

Well, for starters, that's a big IF.
And there's nothing 'innovative' about nuclear power. It's old technology. Solar, wind, geothermal - now, they're innovative.

You ate a pear tree?

For Australians, it refers to the 1939 bushfires.

In a country where they don't and never have had Thanksgiving.

...which is a good reason for the media not to cover him as much as they do - although it makes for easy stories, I suppose.

Are you saying Ted O'Brien was wrong in what he said?
November 28, 2025 at 1:24 AM
1. The value of land is determined by its best use. If farming is less lucrative than another activity, it's not high value ag land.
2. States do this very well.
3. Hopefully with caveats against NIMBYism....if we're for climate action, speed is of the essence.

Ted O'Brien in his RN interview this week basically said that inflation would have been lower under a Liberal government because wages wouldn't have risen (which also, he said, would have lessened the impact of bracket creep...)
Which gives an indication of their thinking.

Thanks for proving the point.

My grandfather did all the laundry for her, but kept it a deep secret because of course men didn't do that in those days...
November 27, 2025 at 6:37 AM
My grandfather was a Methodist Minister, which meant a different parish every 3 years.
Part of my grandmother's 'job' was to serve up morning and afternoon teas to parishioners - every day.
So she constantly collected recipes, written in spidery handwriting, with names like "Mrs Price's Kisses".
November 26, 2025 at 7:39 PM
Well, your original scenario involved moving states, so it was absurd.
And no, not paying a fine would not see your Centrelink payments cancelled.
