I've noticed a habit of Europeans to think how they and the people they know personally do things to be how all of Europe does it, especially when comparing with Americans (us Canadians do it too)

There certainly was "skim through the encyclopedia entry on a subject, then quickly write out your essay, and get a B even though you don't understand or remember everything" back when I was in school before the internet was useful for this sort of thing, and my parents' generation did the same

There's so many things about the US that Americans don't seem to realize is uniquely bizarre, and many of them have to do with how your taxes work
