A few days after that, Israel killed another first cousin of mine named Noor al-Shantaf, along with her husband and their three children. Only one child survived.

In my own extended family, Israel killed my first cousin Tahrir and her husband and their five children (ages 17-6).
That was in October 2023.
In that strike, a second cousin named Mohammad Khader Abu Toha and his wife and their five children were killed (ages 18-2).

It applies to civilians who have not been charged, tried, or convicted of any crime, and embeds electronic tagging into Israel’s system of military rule. The measure allows authorities to force individuals to wear or carry monitoring devices and criminalizes tampering. Israel’s defense minister Israel Katz has explicitly excluded Jewish settlers in the West Bank from the order. It was issued with coordination between the Israel Defense Forces, Israel Security Agency, Israel Police, the Ministry of Justice, and the military’s legal authorities for the West Bank. The move aligns with what journalist and filmmaker Antony Loewenstein describes as Israel’s “Palestine Laboratory.” In his work, Loewenstein argues that Israel exports not only weapons, but a model for controlling “difficult populations”—a comprehensive system combining military force, mass surveillance technology, and spatial control.
