I have talked about Halo on like four different social media platforms and one of them is twitter. I did not expect to have bsky be the one where people are most eager to defend its honor from what I think are pretty mild and unsurprising criticisms.

Being a Halo fan is weird given... you know, Microsoft.
Halo's scifi war is very much a fantasy of a "righteous" war and so much of how Halo portrays war and empire is very... you know, United States self-mythology.

My no-fun-at-parties take is that "christmas is a secular holiday" is an uncomfortable way of assuring me that christianity is the status quo and everything outside of that is an aberration. Sorry! It's still a christian holiday!! Just because you're an atheist doesn't make it secular!
