Do you have a citation for this? I was wondering why the initiative never happened.

Weekends adds are tougher because then you start arguing over what's a work week with the unions. NYCT tried to redistribute shifts from lower ridership Mondays and Fridays to Saturdays and Sundays, where ridership equals/exceeds pre-pandemic. They got taken to arbitration by the TWU and lost.

I've been on two calls today with fire safety professionals where the topic was the safety of single-stair buildings. On both calls, somebody was driving while on the call – one a firefighter, the other a fire protection engineer.

My wife sometimes treats my daughter to "coffee-juicy". She could make coffee at home and buy juice at the store. What she can't do at home is have the barista recognize my daughter, draw a special picture for her on the top of the cup, and give her extra stickers. That's what community looks like.

Austin's "Community not Commodity" NIMBYs opposes community coffee shops. Remember: to build community, there should be no places to gather.

My memory was that the big spike in inflation happened at the same time as the Ukraine war, but based on this metric of inflation, there had been a substantial run-up in inflation before the Ukraine war began. Interesting how big events often get nearby semi-unrelated phenomena attached to them.

Cambridge busways will see its top speed reduced from 56 mph to 30 mph or even 20 mph at intersections in response to a fine over 3 deadly accidents and pending complete fencing off of the right-of-way. This could increase travel times up to 45 minutes on some routes.

Warning of delays as Cambridgeshire Busway speed limit is cut
Journeys could take up to 45 minutes longer when lower speeds are introduced, a bus operator says.

Explicit racism/classism has fallen out of fashion, but many of the arguments against apartments made by early zoners remain familiar, e.g. disparaging remarks about developers getting rich building them—as if "provide valued good/service, get paid" isn't the entire premise of a market economy.

Basically all professional journals treat multifamily dwellings as a selfish convenience with serious social costs in the 1920s. They always are opposed to the purportedly universal necessity of detached houses—which they always conflate with ownership and eusocial behavior.
Are Apartments Necessary?

An Important Test as to the Legality of Zoning Regulations. Judge Kramer Rules Against Establishment of Apartment Houses in Resident Sections

Early zoning codes commonly treated multifamily housing as a commercial use. You still sometimes see this in codes. Because the money is handed to a landlord instead of a bank, it's not a residential use. It's the same Anglo-American anti-commmercial hysteria that killed off corner groceries.

The first schedules after a bus redesign are always somewhat ill-fitting. It takes staff time to learn the nuances of a new network, expected and unexpected.

It's increasingly clear that the president lives in a constructed bubble of unreality designed by aides who are manipulating him in order to take control of US policy. Seems like an important story - wish media would cover it.

Trump seems worried. Perhaps cutting Americans’ health care and assaulting families living here peacefully isn’t so popular?

Goes without saying that these are apocalypse level numbers for an administration that in no small part depends on ppl not caring about their violent anti-immigrant fascism in order for it to succeed.

Health and related programs are another field that gets the second campus treatment in the US, especially as many universities run large hospitals as well.
