The latest book in my library is related to a pet project of mine (haha): a realist political theory of pet-ownership

I bought 2 books for myself as a Christmas present. Here's the second one. Better late than never.

Klosko's answer in his 1992 book to Pateman's criticism of the fairness account is the probably most surreal rebuttal of an argument I've ever read. That poor people should not have substantially lower life expectancy or that women should not be raped is too high a standard. Errr

I finally read this book from cover to cover. Enjoyed it immensely. Not sure, though, that it would be publishable today. It's not until Chapter 8 that the central thesis of the book is revealed. Up to that point, there remained a certain vagueness about the concepts of authority and obligation. Odd

We discussed this book for 3 weeks in a doctoral course. I thought it would provoke fiery debates. But in fact it was just 'eh' . Maybe I should have done something differently. The classes were fine but not nearly as interesting as I expected.

JGA Pocock was a hero of mine for a very long time. So I'm not saying this out of disrespect but the young Edward Herrmann resembles him very much.

I love when philosophers answer objections with the condescension of parents talking to their 8-year-olds. 'You know, honey, equivalence is not the same thing as identity.' It's so much fun to see! Even more funnily, this IS a relevant answer to the objection in question.

We've had a 2-day workshop on 'What's the point of political obligation?' at ELTE, Budapest. The beautiful thing in this is that we did not agree even on whether there is any point in political obligation. :)
