it's great bcuz when the exarch grabs him bcuz of his proximity to the wol (chio) the exarch grabs aris to the first and then goes "...who the hell are you" and aris just has to be grateful that his parents werent there to see him almost deck this dude in the face

smth ive wondered is like. what is aris doing in the alt timeline where the exarch is from that got all fucked up cuz the wol died. and i realized the answer is that he was nice and comfortable in tural doing jackall and fuckshit

aris doesnt want them to infantilize him or deem him incompetent but his parents struggle with the guilt of feeling like his childhood was stripped from him in entirely avoidable ways that were all their faults.

this is a core memory that distinctly played in philomenas mind as she whipped her head around to see zenos eviscerating her baby boy who was just protecting his partner. a second time she couldnt take care of him. what good was bringing him to eorzea if he has to die for it.

esp when these have been experiences they failed to protect him from. he had to kill a voidsent that left the scar on him when he'd only been in eorzea for 4 years and he came home carrying his unconscious classmate and his face was bloody. as soon as the other kid got home aris just started sobbing

i love thinking about arismonts dynamic w his parents bc w/o context his parents come across as too protective of their grown 30+ yr old son. but theyve felt so fucking guilty that they took him to a whole new country to learn his passion and instead hes been in near-death experiences since age 14
