France's government announced plans to expand nuclear power, including at least six new reactors, while scaling back wind and solar development.

PARIS. Sweden and Germany are currently in talks with France about a European nuclear umbrella. Soon France will update its nuclear doctrine, which Berlin, Stockholm and Moscow are eagerly awaiting. On Friday a first indication may come, when Emmanuel Macron gives a speech at the security conference in Munich. But the question is: can France be trusted?

A pleasure to work with the European Nuclear Studies Group on what Europe can do to secure nuclear deterrence.

The danger: when every option has huge costs & risks political incentives are not do anything at all.

But staying the course is no option at all.
