I was born in a water moon…

Since then I've paid an inordinate amount of attention to politics, made Sheffield my home, and made lots of things with yarn. Queer, disabled, democratic communist, one half of Mary James

The fact that the Labour party has factions which actively sabotaged their own election success in '17 & '19 is just a small part of the wider problems our entire political system has. We have so much work to do!

She's not wrong. We have serious work to do if we want to actually avoid the US's current fate
In conclusion, the main lesson to learn from an overtly fascist US is probably not "good thing we're just innately better than them isn't it?" 7/7

One of the most diverse and functional, well-paid populations in the world; swimming in wealth and good public transport and an excellent health service and you decided to shit and vomit it all away in union jacks and sarcasm and cowardly comedians pretending to do satire 4/7

You had the chance to elect a socialist AND dissolve the monarchy inside of a decade and instead you let your firmly captured media - owned by hedgefund managers and aristocrats and billionaires that are both - to melt your populations brains. 3/7

Europeans saying "how can Americans be so stupid?" or "we will never forgive Americans after this" is so profoundly hypocritical. Especially, imo, when it comes from Brits. 1/7
A video of Alex Pretti reading out the final salute of an unnamed veteran he cared for until the end of his life in the ICU, posted to Facebook by his son.
you don't become a martyr because you were a saint, you become a saint because you were martyred
I agree that we can’t make Alex Pretti a Benedictine monk because that’s a trap, but we can talk about the good things we did because people will see and hear them and think “I do those things too”

If you don't know @leejamiller.bsky.social I can highly recommend following her here and on YouTube. Her video today is about what her city, Minnesota, is learning and can teach us all about practical responses to fascism youtu.be/Uj7FZdjrTWU?...

I know. I would be so happy to be proven wrong
The term “law enforcement” should not be used by media, except perhaps in quotations. It has sadly become an Orwellian term that is used to magically sanctify violence. Language matters. Be specific. Describe individuals with names and ranks. Say exactly what they did. Don’t repeat fascist hocum.

Other agents then pepper spray Mr. Pretti, who is holding a phone in one hand and nothing in the other, and pull him to the ground.

"His concealed weapon was found only after he was restrained on the sidewalk, the videos show. It appears to have been taken from him before the agents opened fire."

"Videos analyzed by The New York Times appear to contradict the accounts of federal officials, who said Mr. Pretti approached Border Patrol agents with a handgun and the intent to 'massacre' them. Video footage shows Mr. Pretti stepping between a woman and an agent who is pepper spraying her. ...

I think framing it as a problem we all face is misguided? The problem is specifically the right wing bubble that is groomed to applaud and demand violence towards their enemies, who are identified for them. If your bubble is that we should share more or kittens are nice that's not a problem.
Ultimately you're not supposed to believe it. It not mattering is the point. The bolder the lie, the greater the impunity. The ultimate victory for evil is not convincing you, it's the truth being irrelevant.
We’re supposed to believe this is a domestic terrorist attacking ICE with a gun

"They say they're coming to save us from some evil? They're talking about our neighbors who take care of us ... Alex was murdered while he was helping. Mr Rogers said look for the helpers, & right now the helpers have a target on our forehead ... Mr Rogers would be here right now too, so I'm here."

I'm so sorry, solidarity from the (only a few years behind you guys) UK 😔 *hugs if wanted* being Cassandra doesn't help either, cos we've seen this coming for so long, and we all wanted _so much_ to be proven wrong.

Oh yeah. That's absolutely my jam. I guess I'm dad now 😅

(Also gotta be home alone for this cos you know I'm singing along to Evanescence)

How many people do you need to see ICE execute before you believe us?

All this equipment btw? That's part of what makes being disabled costs more. I used our hot water dispenser (£130) to boil the water and dissolve the stock cube, because pouring from a hot kettle is dangerous for me. Being disabled is *expensive* y'all!

Just so we're clear, and so a tiny handful of wankers online don't create the wrong impression, the vast majority of your European friends are incredibly impressed by Minnesotans' courage against both the ice and ICE.

3hrs in. Already smells so good!

Also also, those silicone slow cooker liner things? Fucking amazing. I've got two half size ones too. They make clean up so much easier, and you can use them to freeze stuff

(I know salt and pepper might make it sound like 8 ingredients, but let's be honest, they're not really ingredients, they just migrate into food by virtue of just being in the kitchen, you know?)

THEN! You can do petit pain in the air fryer in 6 mins to go with it, and it freezes really well, no funny business with taste or texture or owt

This has saved our ass multiple times over the last year. 6 ingredients! Vegan! Freezable! Tasty af! Love it

The soup:

An onion
Several garlic cloves
Carrots
Sweet potatoes
Veg stock cube
One teaspoon medium curry powder
Salt and pepper

Chop it all up, stick it on low for 6hrs, then blend

It's great as is (and vegan) but I like adding a small pat of butter just before serving

Over the last few years, we've used Tom's Xmas John Lewis vouchers from work to get a slow cooker, air fryer, nice hand blender thing with different attachments. And the thing I've used them for most is a really #spoonie friendly freezable bulk cook
