All three of the big man transfers are perfect fits somehow, but Yaxel being an obvious NBA player who could be in the NBA now and yet plays his ass off and is unselfish while being the high paid NIL guy probably really helps set the tone.

The base is just a crème anglaise with 20-ish crushed green cardamom pods. Steep the pods for half an hour off heat, strain, chill (you can put in a gallon bag and an ice bath if you’re pressed for time), and then into the ice cream maker.

The sweet potato glaze sounds phenomenal

Smitten Kitchen. It’s so good

Dry-brined turkey w gochujang and roasted onions
Kale and caramelized onion stuffing
Red cabbage and date salad
Brown butter mashed potatoes
Cabernet cranberry sauce with figs
Green bean casserole
Roasted mushrooms
Pear cranberry crumble w cardamom ice cream
Pumpkin cheesecake w apple cider sorbet
People will die, and are currently dying, because RFK was granted one of the most powerful megaphones in the country. Two people who could have thrown barriers in front of his climb decided not to; there's a sex scandal here but it is not the biggest scandal.

Not pie, not cake, but a secret third thing

Smitten Kitchen’s pear, cranberry, and gingersnap crumble is one of our most cherished Thanksgiving traditions. This year with homemade cardamom ice cream!

Family Christmas Eve was always wings, shrimp cocktail, and a fancy cheese board. Family Christmas Day, eggs Benedict.

Now that I’m off on my own I’ve kept the Christmas Eve tradition but moved to steaks for Christmas Day.
it fascinates me how most everyone in the U.S. does turkey for Thanksgiving, but we are all over the map as to what we eat for Christmas (as is proper for a hugely diverse nation).

I come from a Christmas prime rib roast family, myself.
I also use the bacon method. Although turkey is Christmas dinner where I come from.

Real “Charlie Brown had hoes” hours

I just want there to be more houses so more people can afford to live in my town.
sometimes you just need to take a step back and marvel at the absurdity that is the left-NIMBY mindset

these are not normal, rational people. they have descended into a bespoke form of madness

I believe this is the @fakegreekgrill.bsky.social crank theory of everything
Look, women no longer do shit for free is actually at the root of a lot of social disruption. The question is whether you think the solution is women going back to being unpaid and unprotected by their own labor.

We will boil him soon

We haven’t decided yet if this is Mustafa Kemal Ataturkey or Spencer Turkelson

I remember someone on the old site (I want to say Stancil?) calling for the creation of a France Extended Universe. This is what I’m on about.

Also when we make billions from this we invest that in a 20 movie Les Rougon-Macquart epic
The Aubrey-Maturin Saga (18 movies)
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Cabbage is good and knowing how to cook it is good

You’re right and you should say it

Also something about this one slays me every time

This one has always had a special place in my heart.
Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.
