I cooked a recipe from Men’s Health on an early date with a lady when I was in grad school. I didn’t do any better than ok and I’m not sure what kind of vibe it set?

But the intent was there and it was from the heart. I made it again the evening I proposed.

The one I actually find the most depressing is where it cuts to what is clearly a young couple on a first date cooking dinner in their apartment and the camera zooms out to show a prompt of something like “what’s a good first date recipe that doesn’t show I’m too invested” and chatgpt outlines it

There's this ad where the guy asks AI what he should make for his sunday BBQ, and tbh it really depressed me. Make what sounds good to you? What you're craving? It feels like fully abandoning your personhood to have a computer assign you something like that. You're alive, live in your body and mind.

Yikes.

But yeah the other thing that is happening now is that previous owner apparently decided that all the stuff you need for a dishwasher -- air trap or high loop, separate GFCI outlet -- is woke nonsense. We learned this when getting delivery of a new dishwasher.

Watching my dad -- genuinely a very skilled amateur, and very serious about planning and codes -- do this growing up may have given me a false impression of the standard most do-it-yourselfers work to.

Yeah that's two fixes this month, now, made more complicated by the fact that the previous owner tried to do some things himself that he absolutely should not have. Makes you wonder what other surprises may be lurking!
