"Fully Depreciated" is a tax and accounting term that indicates the asset is past its useful economic life, the sort of incredibly nerdy business reference that I would make but in this context its about a young woman, which prompts one to ask, well, how would her value be going down

This detail from the WSJ’s new Trump-Epstein reporting also seems pretty bad www.wsj.com/us-news/law/...
The Epstein estate also turned over another letter from the book that references Trump. It came from businessman and longtime Mar-a-Lago member Joel Pashcow, who made a crude joke about a woman that Trump and Epstein socialized with in the 1990s, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Pashcow letter included a photo of a posterboard-sized check for $22,500, which had been mocked up to appear that it was sent from Trump to Epstein. Beneath it, a handwritten caption said: “Jeffrey showing early talents with money + women sells ‘fully depreciated’ [redacted] to Donald Trump for $22,500.” The woman’s name is redacted in the image.

My five wealthiest conservative clients give several hundred thousand dollars a year.

My five wealthiest liberal clients give zero.

I would add that I've done taxes for twenty years and if you're a liberal and give to charity you're in the very very noticeable minority.

Republicans give to charity, and to rw agitprop

it has a lot to do with incentives.

to rightwing plutocrats, a D admin is an intolerable threat to their wealth & power, so writing blank checks for agitprop makes sense and is in fact honorable self-defense.

to their lib counterparts such a thing would be gauche, a social capital-negative

this has been a periodic complaint for decades and I'm curious what is standing in the way of fixing it

they’re the most feckless and decadent people alive and very often their primary motivation is boredom-induced vanity, which is about as firm a foundation as a trampoline.

I really wish I could say it other than "they're more About It", but: it really is the case! It was a huge mindfuck for me to leave the Religious Right and see how relatively inert the liberal donor counterparts actually were. Inside the RW tent, we gave them way more spine than deserved!

The rich religious right donors, many genuinely believe they were in a cultural struggle for the soul of the country and the globe, the liberal donors I've met were mostly weighing their political donations alongside their fine art expenditures.

rightist plutocrats are doing politics. liberal plutocrats are doing charity. it’s an entirely different mindset.

It's basically impossible to earn a living as an independent commentator on the left.

By contrast, Fox and its imitators *constantly* elevate new voices and encourage people to get involved.

They pool their resources. They recycle their dollars and keep them in-network. They crowdfund like crazy.

People are getting mad at this because moping and absolving themselves of doing any meaningful work is a core part of their identity, sorry, I am not obligated to make you feel better about that!

People are still doing “there aren’t going to be midterms” posts as we see these people struggle to handle a guy in a frog costume
Steve Buscemi as Nikita Khrushchev saying “You are accused of doomer behavior. The court finds you guilty and sentences you to be shot.”

There's a sinecure problem on the left, not enough billionaires that just want to put lefties in our\ face forever, and to the extent they do, its people like Tracey or Greenwald, which is terrifying

The reason people THINK employer coverage is significantly less expensive than ACA coverage is because around 75% of the premium cost is typically PAID BY THE EMPLOYER.

ACA tax credits effectively take the place of the employer's share of ESI premiums.

I can't think of a more overhyped prize that is actually trash than the Nobel peace prize. How are Abiy and Aung San Suu Kyi doing anyway these days

But yeah, as long as you can handle yourself in one, wearing a silly blow-up frog costume to protest is a great way to make it more family-friendly, make it look better, chase away idiots with violent fantasies, and demoralize the fascists who need a war with antifa supersoldiers, not happy mockery.
