The inspiration for this particular post was an exchange between myself and an internet stranger (under a post on Jim Gavin's recent controversy during his Irish presidential campaign) where I expressed overtly anti-landlord sentiments. Which is to say: it was all completely fucking stupid.

This idea that "rich kids talk fancy" is so counter-productive. I'm autistic is what's happening there. I'm still working class. The Irish landlords earning €100,000+ a year who claim working class bona fides because they have a regional accent and regressive views are still capitalist class scum

I've been homeless, I've lived in squalor, been terrified of losing electricity. I became a parent at 19. Poverty has taken its toll on me both physically and mentally, in real and measurable ways.

I had to work from age 12 to support the household. And I'm not that old, yknow? We're talking about the early 2000s. I was raised and educated in a very rural part of the west of Ireland. I did not have a "good" education. At all. It was frankly shite.

There's a significant enough number in Dublin but it is VERY hard to not get turfed out and brutalised. Authorities and private security things wrecked some of the most beautiful squats in the city.
