This sidewalk is still ridiculous. North Hill Centre told me in December it's not part of the mall and suggested 311. I submitted a request then. Will do so again. But surely there's a better strategy than 311 submissions every time it snows.😡 #yyccc #yycwalk

We're now three weeks since #yyc's first big snowfall and trying to push a stroller around this city is still a pain. This is a well-used route next to a shopping centre (North Hill Centre). #yycwalk #yyccc

I would strongly argue we don't need to learn. We know. The City knows. We just continually choose to not do it to the scale it needs to be done.

And with the modest budget adds for this year - we can both celebrate progress and know it's not enough.

Potentially of interest to #yycbike and #yycwalk folks who are paying attention to the upcoming municipal election: Tying mode share to the roads budget would ensure funding for active transport grows as more people walk and roll.

Thoughts?
Take the politics out of active transportation by tying funding to usage. If 2.5% of trips are made by walking or wheeling, 2.5% of the transportation capital budget should support those modes. This creates a fair, transparent basis for investing in transportation, fixing pathway gaps, and building long-awaited links like the Calgary to Cochrane Trail

The Trans Canada Trail info boards are back (have been for a few weeks) and based on the extra holes in the concrete they look to be mounted in slightly different spots. What was this all about?

Still don’t like these placed in the middle of 2 busy pathways.

Underground utility work will close the connection of Eagle Ridge Dr and Glenmore Reservoir pathway Mar 24-28. By the description it will likely be impassable.
If that is your normal route you will need to detour via Heritage Dr Chinook Park to the RVH overpass

Whether you’re walking, biking, driving, or taking transit, everyone deserves streets that are safe and reliable. Active modes have some of the best possible bang for your buck, at a relatively low price tag. I'm all for enabling choice and would love to hear your ideas.
