What a shame that the Guardian has allowed such a silly comment. It is well known that the UK has one of the lowest pension rates amongst advanced economies.
Just look at the figures from Unison for starters

India and China have come to rely on cheap Russian oil and don’t want President Trump’s new sanctions against Russia’s two biggest oil companies to disrupt their economies. But the pressure is rising.
Will India and China Be Able to Resist U.S. Sanctions on Russian Oil?
New Delhi and Beijing have so far resisted U.S. calls to stop buying Russian crude, but far-reaching sanctions will be hard to ignore.

The latest economic activity indicators called purchasing managers indexes (PMIs) confirm that the major economies are still crawling along – neither slipping into slump nor picking up pace. The global PMI stands at 52.4 in September (any score above 50.0 means expansion, any score below means contraction).

Free markets don't do anything except concentrating wealth on a few people who most likely didn't deserve it. They were just the lucky ones.
Free markets are better than feudalism, but it is worse than regulated economies. Most countries have to regulate their economy to survive.

I agree and we do kind of live in a budding desert but not because we are burning just wood; both economic and population growth are a product o burning fossil fuels. We can't stop because our economies are addicted to that and it would make a lot of rich people a lot poorer.

Common mistake. Trump made it too.

Basically by the 1970s the rate of profitability - which is central thing regulating capitalist economies - slowed down bcz capitalism LITERALLY cannot allow for its dispossessed/exploited classes to sustainably gain even a little bit more social power within the capital-labour antagonism/hierarchy
society pretty much "spitting/vomitting out" this (authoritarian and anticommunist, it's worth saying) redistributive era because it partially and temporarily enabled some unprecedented (and unmatched since; and based on the exploitation of the Global South) social mobility and safety nets.
