I've discovered, most of the time, they have no idea what it is and are really hoping I don't ask questions.

also its a female lead in an MMO; much of it is misogyny (aware or unkowingly internalized) and peoples overall lower threshold for female characters with writing flaws/etc but id sooner play hopscotch in a minefield than talk feminism w the average xiv player so i just sigh & move on at this point

youre not some kind of evil being for doing it. misogyny is extremely normalized. its just there most of the time. but you have to acknowledge this, it is one of the most basic parts of feminism.
