Largely agree with this but not huge on throwing IQ into the conversation, even just rhetorically - it's also a pretty spotty measure of stuff.

I think massive collector sets for affluent adults is a troubling business model. Hell, like you said - this could have been for individual Pokémon. This could have been three sets. But Lego are increasingly making massive fuck off expensive collector pieces.

Nah for me the problem is the business model of creating massively expensive collectors pieces in the first place. The ratio is fine, but I don't especially care about that.
