Vampires: Father Paul is the best of the blood-sucking priests. So well-meaning, so weak and conflicted, so good at talking himself and others into horrifying things. The "Angel" is my favourite of the modern Nosferatu-style designs, especially in the Easter chasuble. Brrr!

Day 30
Movie: A hilarious send-up of vampire tropes, and also a heartwarming story about learning to live with people. A Halloween favourite.
Vampires: All fun in their own special ways, like the archetypes they're parodying. Vladislav the Poker gets the best jokes.

Day 29
Miniseries: Could've done without quite so much small-town drama before the vamps show up, but once they do, it's riveting. Barely feels like 3 hours. MC is a deadbeat, though.
Vampires: Very creepy, even the bucktoothed Master. Can turn you cold without turning you.

Day 28
Movie: Early del Toro that already contains all his trademarks, for better & worse. Feels slow for its length, & Ron Perlman is a cartoon. Still lovely & moody overall.
Vampire: A fantastic look. Love the backwards suit & peeling skin. And he sticks to his morals!

Day 27
Movie: Dark, sexy Gothic horror, oddly infused with slapstick comedy. Never heard so much slurping in all my life.
Vampire: Basically just an average Catholic running out of excuses. I feel a good conversation with Louis du Lac could fix him (maybe even her).

Day 26
Movie: Kind of like a less annoying, gayer Goonies. Can't believe it's rated R--had kids' adventure movie vibes for me. Cory Feldman's Batman voice was a highlight.
Vampires: They're just a happy family that likes to party! Kids should've left them alone.

Day 25
Movie: Case study in how writing for teens progressed over 30 years--and how lighting & effects regressed. My question is, how did 2011 Tumblr survive shirtless goth Doctor Who??
Vampire: A little smarter, and a lot prettier, than the original. Pity about his true form.

Day 24
Movie: Much as I dislike Mina & Dracula being in love, I have to admit I'd also pick suave Gary Oldman over stoned Keanu. A pretty, misogynist, over-long fever dream, just like the book!
Vampire: Hate the backstory, love the shape-shifting. The bat form was my favourite.

Day 23
Movie: Easily best of the year in any genre. Mythology mingled with history, classic tropes combined to make something wholly original.
Vampire: Vampirism as an allegory for cultural assimilation is genius, and that version of Rocky Road to Dublin stole my Irish heart.

Day 22
IWTV S2E7-8: What all page-to-screen adaptations should aspire to. Same tone & spirit as the book, made fresh & surprising again. Pitch-perfect casting, music, production, etc.
Vampires: Beautiful dramatic messes, every one of them. My inner theatre kid can't get enough.

Day 21
Movie: I've a soft spot for any movie that can teach me new Irish folklore, so this was a great time. If the Stoker isn't already a real pub, it should be.
Vampire: Abhartach is pretty OP for existing mostly off-screen. Long-distance blood draining is crazy!

IWTV S2E5-6: Knew it! I like that this version of Madeleine is an actual character. Gonna make the season finale hurt even more.
Vampire(s): At least the Theatre des Vampires keeps the drama on the stage! Quite a feat when there's *this much* drama.

Day 19
Movie: Fairly faithful adaptation of the book, including the anticlimax ending. Giving the castle prologue to Renfield makes Harker a non-character, but R's more fun anyway.
Vampire: Happy birthday, Bela Lugosi! You milked your cape-swishing talents for all their worth.

Day 18
IWTV S2E3-4: The interview plot thickens! I could complain about how much space Lestat is still taking up despite being "dead"...but I won't.
Vampire: Yeah, I'm pretty sure Armand will end up being the villain of this whole show. He's got too many mind-powers not to be.

Day 17
Movie: A *very* 80s take on classic tropes, complete with sexist, homophobic subtext. Lots of fun music and effects, though!
Vampire: As always, Prince Humperdinck is good at being creepy and hammy in equal measure. He wasted a lot of time tormenting one random teen, tho!

Day 16
IWTV S2E1-2: New Claudia's accent is less convincing. Otherwise no complaints. I'd pay for this version of the Theatre des Vampires.
Vampire: Armand seems perfect so far, mainly because I can't tell what to make of him yet.

Day 15
Movie: 5% plot, 95% vibes. Slow, but stylish and beautiful, with a killer soundtrack.
Vampire: Absolute goals. She skateboards, listens to great music, and has great taste in men (in every sense of the term).

Day 14
IWTV Eps 7-8: What makes this a great adaptation is that it's equally suspenseful whether you've read the book or not. And that it's so overdramatic.
Vampires: Monologuing should be included right next to flying in the list of vamp superpowers. Call it "the air gift."

Day 13
Movie: People say Sinners copied this, but Sinners didn't make me sit through an hour of Tarantino's creep act before getting good. It also didn't have an automatic stake gun, so...tradeoffs.
Vampires: Those sure are demons from hell! All worth it for the effects.

Days 11-12
IWTV eps 4-5: Aging up Claudia was an adaptational necessity, but I wish they'd kept her sexuality more ambiguous. Toning down Lestat's manipulation at first makes his toxic turn hit harder.
Vampire: Claudia is still a queen, and I love that she tells her own story.

Day 10
Movie: Love the setting and lore, but don't care enough about the human characters. Also, way too much annoying 2000s sped-up editing during the action scenes.
Vampires: A unique approach. Animalistic, totally inhuman, but still intelligent. I dig.

Days 8-9
IWTV Eps 2-3: Curious to see how the "odyssey of recollection" unfolds as an explanation for the adaptation differences. Loving the approach to race & power dynamics.
Vampires: Conflicted about this "good" version of Louis; hoping he's still an unreliable narrator.

Day 7
Movie: A sweet, gentle romantic comedy about finding love when no one understands you. Great music, too.
Vampire: Literally me as a vampire! I also love how her family comes together to support her (eventually) even though she lives outside their norms.

Day 6
Episode 1: Fascinating changes to put the story in a modern context. Unsure how I feel about the interview itself, but Louis is already 10× more sympathetic than the OG (or Emo Brad Pitt).
Vampire: Lestat is properly predatory, but, I worry, too clever. Time will tell.

Day 5
Movie: Surprisingly close to the nastiness of the book, but doesn't quite capture the depth of its nihilism. And it's a tad less gay, while retaining plenty of camp.
Vampire(s): Brad Pitt is a boring mope. Kirsten Dunst is a prodigy. Tom Cruise is just being his best self.
