In my former life as a federal public defender: assntFPD negotiating a drug case with a Harvard Law grad AUSA,who says if our client went to trial & was convicted they would deport him. Much laughter from AFPD:"Deport him to PUERTO RICO? HOW"? AUSA:"I'll get back to you". So much for leverage. . .

I was recently in NYC where I grew up and went to university but the NYC Subway system is by far the most disgusting transit system that I have seen in all my travels.

Worst case scenario: a client that delusional (and also adamant) seeks to fire you but the judge appoints you "stand-by counsel." In one such case, deft kept - and announced - a tally of how much the judge, the AUSA, and his AFPD stand-by counsel owed him for uttering his name. (It was millions.)
