I didn’t realise you was visiting my neck of the woods. Formby beach is lovely, if you get the chance check out Ainsdale Beach, and Ainsdale village is lovely for a bite to eat!

I saw them in Ainsdale (north of Liverpool) as a kid. That's partly why I was so amused at the precision of the switch

Today is a Gomez day. And possibly a walk on Southport/Ainsdale beach. Blow out the cobwebs and escape the routine.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Today's walk lasted four hours and took us along the land behind the sand dunes instead of to the beach. We went through woods, moorland-ish ground and sand dunes. We joined the England Coast Path for most of it. Then we walked back along the beach. Formby to Ainsdale and back to Formby.

Whenever I drive towards Ainsdale village, I cannot stop myself from looking out for bunches of mistletoe in two of the roadside trees.
To spread from tree to tree, mistletoe cleverly offers up its berries to birds.

I still have my mug from that Garden Festival... we did both it and Stoke in 1986 though they were the wrong way round for us as we moved from nearer Stoke (Alsager) to nearer Liverpool (Ainsdale) in Aug '86

We are delighted to announce the signing of Harry Beddard from Ainsdale CC.

With over 600 runs last year, Harry joins the club in our centenary year, and he becomes Macauley Lawrenson’s first signing as captain.

Good luck, Harry.

A long walk on Ainsdale Dunes was the perfect counterpoint to a thought-provoking and very social day at the @bsbibotany.bsky.social conference on Saturday. Plenty of seed-heads of coastal species including Parsley Water-dropwort and Grass-of-Parnassus. Names in ALT

Really lovely to chat this morning - I ended up going for a surprisingly long walk at Ainsdale, with the joy of Parnassia and Oenanthe lachenalii seedheads in the dune slacks
