Muroran comes from the Ainu word Mororan, meaning “a small downward slope.”
The town was named after its terrain.
Muroran’s famous yakitori uses pork, not chicken—born from wartime pig farming and the local skewer-grilling culture.

It’s wonderful how much he wanted to support Ainu crafts, especially because he had the explicit intent to put money back into a culture he was knowingly profiting from

His reaction to sinking an ungodly amount of money into his hockey manga that was fucking canceled was to spend an ungodly amount of money on his ainu post-war manga. he’s so fucking lucky GK was successfully because good lord

I find it amusing that Thiel loves Lord of the Rings so much and looks like he's about 200 years into his own gollumification.

All these Silicon Valley freaks that love LOTR would 100% seize the Ring for themselves. Boromir would look like an Ainu next to them.

The Ainu instrument “Mukkuri” is a bamboo mouth harp with unique overtone sounds like “biyoon” and “boyoon.”
With no fixed notes, players shape wind- or animal-like tones using breath and the mouth. Today it’s loved as a healing instrument for relaxation and meditation 🌿

They're cool with an Ainu + Native American mashup and some Turkic aesthetics.

But their euro russian producer's a piece of crap that sees the indigenous girls as replaceable cogs and takes all the credit.

Now, with its legacy, anytime “Ainu“ is brought up “Golden Kamuy” is what seems to auto fill in the brains of a lot of jpn people now, which is a shame, but certainly not Noda’s intention. When going to museums and modern study GK is inescapable 😔

On the other hand, Kiroranke, the good-natured ladies' man that he is, gives the Ainu people an attractive impression (although he is actually a terrorist).'

sir... that's his charm point...

from a short essay(?) by the ainu language supervisor for gk (nakagawa hiroshi)

'Not only does Golden Kamuy feature a number of Ainu people as its main characters, but it also breaks the stereotypical image of the Ainu as simple people who--

Satoru Noda (Golden Kamuy): Historiador salvaje.

Cape Erimo, the southernmost tip of Hokkaido.
From the Ainu Onne-Enrum — onne (great, old) + enrum (jutting cape):
“the great, projecting cape.”
Known in myth as Pirika Noka, a place of beautiful form.
Wind and fog feel like part of the story 🌿

Khura’in definitely uses some Indian and Tibetan aesthetics but a lot of their cultural elements come from Ainu culture and Rayfa and Ga’ran are definitely caricatures of Iyo and Himiko and that combined with the general colonialist vibes def put it in anti-Ainu territory for me
February 4, 2026 at 5:53 PM
Last thing on this I promise but it drives me insane that this series literally has a game that’s like “the Ainu are backwards and evil and it’s important to go and liberate them with superior culture to show them their ways are wrong” and just gets a complete pass for that 90% of the time
AA is a series I wish I could like more but the fandom combination of “this thing with no queer characters is more queer than queer media” and even the leftist part of the fandom generally refusing to acknowledge AA6 has some pretty racist themes is so lethal to my enjoyment
