13. Best concert I've ever been to was probably FORM festival at Arcosanti in 2016(?). It will never be the same again.

Around Phoenix are ArcoSanti and CoSanti, works by Paolo Soleri around archologies.

To be honest, although I went to Arcosanti in the 80s; I didn't recognize your bell image in your reply. I do remember the "apse effect" t-shirt I picked up when I was there though. BTW, I ordered a copy of "Raven's Heart," wondering if there is any arcology in it.

No, I was reading your Solstice Sunrise at the Sunwheel blog entry; and something about it made me think of Arcosanti and the Apse Effect; so I was curious.

Yes. I've always been fascinated by arcologies and use them in my fiction. In the late 1980's my wife and I traveled throughout the Southwest US doing educational assemblies with a portable planetarium. We visited Arcosanti when we were in the area. We bought bells as gifts for relatives.

I enjoy your writings, thank you. Have you ever been to Arcosanti?

Arcosanti is a wonderful place. Here's to Paolo Soleri, the architect, and the beautiful copper bells he would make.

been thinking about this a lot. i remember a time when it seemed like the whole earth catalog would find a way. then for awhile it was enough to live in some old, old building. arcosanti got farther & farther off. till one day we woke up & mad max had won.

reposted this to respect arcosanti. A beautiful place. I recommend the FORM festival highly and in general to stay there at their rented rooms for the weekend

Remembering getting Arcosanti mixed up with Biosphere 2 and being confused while touring the former

I made sure to catch that after seeing him perform outdoors at FORM Arcosanti in 2024. The rainforest sounds reverberating around that church, incredible!

“The community shows how the work of resisting sprawl and testing new social blueprints is tiring, with progress so incremental that it appears stalled. Heck, even Soleri struck a regretful tone about the undertaking. “When he was still around,” his former neighbor told the Tucson Sentinel, “he […]

Just a lovely, thoughtful essay about Arcosanti and its desert legacies:

What a 1970s Commune in Arizona Got Right About Desert Urbanism
Architect Paolo Soleri’s experimental city, Arcosanti, was planned for 5,000 people; 50 years later, it holds just a fraction of that figure. But it still has lessons for living in extreme heat.

Maybe they want to buy and resume construction of Arcosanti in Arizona, or they want to build a separate 'freedum city' in the Arizona desert and to steal the water back from California.
