Two weeks ago we shared with you the mini-masterpieces based on our original artwork: "A Sea Of Glass Glowing With Fire," a 24x18" Acrylic on Canvas from September 2025. We'd not officially shared our actual artwork with all of you and are happy to be doing that today! The title comes from snippet from the 'Seven Angels with Seven Plagues' Story in Revelation 15:2, "And I saw what looked like a sea of glass glowing with fire and, standing beside the sea, those who had been victorious over the beast and its image and over the number of its name." [as translated in the NIV of The Bible]

Artist's Statement / Backstory: Although the worship songs, message, and worship service in its entirety was moving that week; it didn't capture what I was receiving from the Spirit. I continued to be nudged toward the notion of a glassy [which I interpreted as icy] sea being smooth and then beginning to morph as it burst forth into flames. Although the entire canvas is heavily textured, the lower areas and right side of the canvas were layered with pigments to make them appear as smoothly frozen ice with depth and almost a chill to contrast what's breaking forth above it. Fun Fact: Adding the gloss varnish to this piece really concretes the notion of a glassy sea; so, be on the lookout for a video of this at some point in the future!

We are continuing our weekly artwork feature today, as well as, our rainbow / pride-inspired artworks for the month of June! Today we're happy to be sharing, "ROY G BIV in Bloom" a 12x16" Acrylic on Canvas from May 2025. [Original Artwork Available @ https://www.craigscanvases.com/shop/p/roy-g-biv-in-bloom] The title for this artwork refers to the colors of the visible spectrum: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet which are present in a rainbow. This may be our favorite pride piece as we explored a different take on the rainbow. This may best be encapsulated in the quote by Lawren Harris, "Visible nature is but a distorted reflection of a more perfect world and the creative individual viewing her is inspired to perceive within and behind her many garments, that which is timeless and entirely beautiful."

Artist's Statement / Backstory: I spent some time thinking about what I wanted to paint and in-turn have others paint during pride month this year. I made the rainbow that I featured last week; but, I wanted to present it in a different way. The thought occurred to me that depending on what the image was some viewers may respond positively to an image and not a rainbow artwork. That was the basis for the seven vases and accompanying flora placed inside them in 'rainbow order.' This accompanied me this past weekend at a private paint party and five of the seven attendees used this as the inspiration for creating their artwork! Here's hoping you enjoy it as well!

This artwork was created as created an act of worship on Sunday February 09, 2025 at The Journey Church in Harrisburg, PA. One of the praise songs that Sunday was "Refiner" which shares the message that we must all surrender ourselves to God's refining process[es]. The lyrics to that song didn't totally encapsulate the artwork created; but, the notion of a searing, scorching, refining fire certainly were in parallel with the artwork we created.

Artist's Statement / Information: The vision that I had in creating this piece was the darkened ash and remnants of a fire still smoldering. In a complete contradiction to the way this piece was painted with a bright periwinkle background [that peeks out throughout the composition]. When getting started that Sunday, I knew this artwork needed to be much darker with ashy soot, there needed to visibly be the water running down over the artwork, and wisps of flame not extinguished. Creating the artwork from the vision provided by Spirit was far easier than entitling the work. I wanted something that exemplified the notion of being burnt and yet still on fire. None of the songs, the selected scripture, nor sermon really worked; so, I went in search of a quote that would speak for my artwork.

We have had several posts and shared a lot of information about our artwork at Wildwood Park; but, one thing we didn't share is that we received first place from the Guest Evaluator Shawn Williams! Last Friday evening we attended the Artist's Reception where this announcement was made and on Sunday a first place ribbon was delivered to our site. We're so honored and happy to receive this recognition!!

Two other pieces of information yet to be shared are the answer to our most asked question on Sunday... "How long / How many hours did it take to complete this?" We spent some time crunching the numbers earlier this week and total working time was about 21.5 hours. The other is we've completed the entire time lapse recording sequence from blank site to completed art installation in about 5 minutes with is available to be viewed at: https://youtu.be/iFP-lhQ2iVY

Artist's Statement / Backstory: Each year I revisit the goals, mission, values, vision, and other documents to ensure they align with what's been accomplished and where the business will be going. In early 2025 I wrote the goal: "WIN AN AWARD!" [in all caps just like you see it here]. I knew writing the goal would be a lot easier than completing it; but, here we are! I was absolutely shocked when the slideshow concluded with the slide you're seeing as today's image!

You're still able to see our creation and the other eighteen installations through the end of September and vote for your favorite through mid-September!

Today's featured artwork is: "Sending You Love: A Hug In A Mug" an 11x14" Acrylic on Canvas from January 2023. [Available at https://www.craigscanvases.com/shop/p/sending-you-love-a-hug-in-a-mug] It's been much cooler and wetter in Central PA this month than other May's have been with more rainy weather today! One way to try to keep the dampness at bay is with a cup of hot tea or coffee; so, we're sending one your way! [This artwork may look familiar as it's been around for a while, is on a card, and has been used as an example for Paint Events; but, has never been featured on its own!]

Artist's Statement / Backstory: This artwork was created specifically for a Valentine's Date Night Paint Party that I did over two years ago. As always, the challenge for me, in creating an example, is that it needs to be its own unique work of art to be replicated. I didn't want it to be too Valentine's heart and lovey; but, still pay homage to the holiday and all that it stands for. I was happy with the result and the longer it has traveled with me the more I genuinely enjoy and am brought joy by the artwork. As I wrap this post up around the theme of love, I encourage you to send someone some love today! It's a gloomy, ugly mess of a rainy day in Central PA; so, you can share this post and tag them in it or your call, email, or text may be exactly what they need!

Perhaps you have felt overwhelmed by everything; like the world's closing in around you and you're under water... This artwork was created in an attempt to capture that exact moment / feeling when you're under water and you're looking toward the sky as the light from the sun shines down through the water.
As we thought about the feeling of being underwater from this artwork we began to sing/hum the pre-chorus to 'All Of Me' by John Legend: "My head's under water, but I'm breathing fineYou're crazy and I'm out of my mind"

Artist's Statement / Backstory: Prior to last month it had been a while since I'd done any completely watercolor artworks and definitely none at the size / scale of this piece. Home renovation projects were in full swing and creating artwork wasn't a top priority; but, when I had a little time I tried to use it to make art. This piece was really trying to capture the way in which I was trying to stay calm in the midst of basically every room of the house being torn up. I did indeed feel under water; but, kept looking for the sun to shine in those moments much like when you're looking at the bright orb that's piercing through the water.

During June we were blessed with the opportunity to paint as part of worship for Harrisburg First Church of the Brethren. The artwork created during that service is what we're sharing today, "All Things Shall Be Possible" a 24x24" Acrylic on Canvas from June 2025. The title from this artwork comes from the scripture and sermon message presented that Pentecost Sunday morning. The Pastor shared how speech/languages were scattered during the story of The Tower of Babel in Genesis 11 and then were able to be heard and understood again on that first Pentecost Sunday. For generations it would have been impossible for different groups of people to communicate and understand one another; but, God made it so that 'all things shall be possible.'
Artist's Statement / Backstory: Sitting in the Spirit to prepare myself [and therefore the canvas] for Pentecost Sunday morning I kept envisioning this deep dark crimson and violet fire. It wasn't the traditional bright fire that I'd seen or even painted before; so, I prepared a dark maroon colored background for my work. When I was getting ready that morning, I kept getting nudged and hearing "bright green" and "swan." My logical brain: that makes no sense, oh, and you have a maroon background to put all that on! Driving to church I said aloud if today's supposed to be lime green swan I really need to know; just like that the sun came out shining on a tree to my right making it a fluorescent green color and a white bird directly in front of my windshield. 'Got it! Thanks God!' and in a trailing off voice, 'sorry if I doubted you...' was all the more I could say until I arrived and worked on capturing the spirit of the worship service with this artwork!
