Bridewort (Spiraea salicifolia) is a bit of a pink alien nightmare up close...

It's said that if you've been robbed, gather Meadowsweet on Midsummer and float it on water.
If it floats, the thief is a woman, if it sinks, it's a man.
So that narrows it down to 50% of the population then 🤔😂
For much more useful info. check out the ALT text on the photo 🦋🐝

Feeling excited about my migration to Blue-sky, so I'm posting what I was working on today to celebrate - it's a #sketchbook style #botanicalillustration of #bridewort. (It's an invasive in Sweden and is part of a commission for FOR Sweden)

Great Horsetail along the banks of the Mersey at Oglet, quite a scarce plant in these parts. Also Western Spirea and Bridewort naturalised along woodland edges in the area. @RECORDLRC @BSBIbotany @yoeGreenspace

One of the high-value income streams we are investigating for production on cutover lands is floristry. This requires the selection of appropriate species that thrive in wet, acid peatland. Bridewort of Aaron's Beard (Spiraea salicifolia) is a small shrub that fits the bill!

More #sketchbook #botanicalillustrations for FOR Sweden's #Invasivespecies project; I love doing these. (for.se/hitta-de-inv...)
There's Bridewort, Dwarf serviceberry, Dwarf Japanese knotweed, and False acacia
I adapt these to create stand-alone #illustrations as well (see post below)

Also known as Bridewort or Meadwort, it's revered in magickal practices for its potent properties including harmony, attracting love, and warding off negativity. So maybe you can have your cake and eat it too. =)

Here my #botanicalillustrations of #Bridewort #DwarfJapaneseknotweed, #Dwarfserviceberry & #Falseacacia have been edited into stand-alone watercolour illustrations which can then be re-used for other jobs.
If you hang onto your copyright, re-use fees can add up over time & are v welcome.

used as both a bridal flower (alternative name "bridewort") and a funerary flower (found in bronze age burials and cremations), it's medicinal (the first plant from which salicylic acid was isolated) and a dye can be made from it's roots. Plus it's beautiful #nature #botany
