Oh, crap. I forgot to release my recent suite of tools for Blender. I'll put together a pack right away. BuildaBot! Slightly easier faster modeling in Blender.

I know this sounds improbable, but I think I'm gearing up to release both my BuildaBot Blender addon, and a selection of Godot-powered screentoys later this month.

When most developers come up with a new tool, they very often tout it as "smart". Well, Thundercats and Thunderkittens, let me humbly present the newest member of the BuildaBot suite of modeling tools for Blender.... Dumb Mirror!

This past few weeks, I've been working on a small family of Blender Modifiers that make modeling a little easier and more intuitive (called BuildaBot), and after some experimenting, I really think this is the key feature...
I do the same task two different ways here. They're both valid.

The newest addition to the BuildaBot family of modeling tools for Blender, Skuppi is an organic boolean and remesh modifier that leverages BuildaBot's Collection-based workflow. The method is highly dynamic and can be tuned for accuracy or creativity.
Finger print effect included.

...and here's a little speed organic sculpt using a prototype tentacle generator and BuildaBot Skuppi to generate the overall mesh. Identified a pretty big bug in Skuppi that will take a little while to figure out, but in the meantime... cephalopod! Ish!

I've been trying to come up with a method the last few days to combine meshes organically using volumetric tools, but hadn't been getting the results I wanted. Well, I came up with a method, and this is the first version of BuildaBot Skuppi, meant for lumping together base meshes for sculpting.

Doing some morning modeling to test my new version of BuildaBot.

And here's BuildaBot CableTek in action, with all the shaping tools turned on. You'll see I also turn on snapping before I start adding points, and it's set to snap to faces, which helps the modifier immensely.

The 3rd version of my BuildaBot modifier is now running. The new version should be easier to manage and more powerful. Now there's a single Component collection, and adding objects makes them Add by default. A BotComponent modifier can be added to switch each piece's mode.

...and in addition to being a wickedly powerful way to generate geometry in its own right, the Replicator is also designed to complement the BuildaBot modifier, allowing you to build shapes in very interesting ways.

BuildaBot leverages the newly added Manifold boolean mesh solver, and is in essence a tool for organizing and automating its use. You supply the components, and the robot assembles them for you, thus BuildaBot.

Alright, tonight I'm going after the cable/wire tool I've been wanting to make, also tied into this new BuildaBot set. Should also work for making tentacles, I think. We'll see.

I should probably cleanup the whole BuildaBot thing and see about releasing it somehow. Not really planning to sell it because people don't buy things. And I don't like selling things anyway.

Doing some work on BuildaBot tonight. What are you up to?

...and with just a bit of finagling, the instances can be programmed to do different operations when a BuildaBot is added. Hell yeah.

"Fidel, what's a preconfigured Construction Floor?"
It adds a Buddy Cube with the BuildaBot Modifier already setup inside its own collection, and adds a BuildaBot Components collection with an example cutter, already setup with its modifier as well.

The tool I've been working on this afternoon is the BuildaBot Replicator, which you can think of as a super powerful version of the Array Modifier, but using a somewhat different workflow. Here, I give a tour of almost all the features, which I'll explain below.

More testing of BuildaBot, showing how Stages work. Here, I add a cube, give it a BotComponent modifier set to intersect, then add a cone, but it has no effect because the default add happens before intersections. A BotComponent modifier allows me to set it to Stage 2, and Subtract.

Here's what BuildaBot looks like inside. While the last version allowed you to defer operations to a second build stage, this new one supports a totally arbitrary number of build stages that can be allocated at will (needs testing still).

The output of some quick modeling with BuildaBot. Nicely formed mesh. Has some shading issues, as boolean shapes often do, which could be easily corrected with some retention loops. Should be immediately printable.

What if I put together a whole shelf of procedural modeling tools to go along with this neat boolean thing. What then.
I think BuildaBot is becoming a whole wing of my operation here.

Doing some afternoon exploration on a tool for BuildaBot that's supposed to organically combine shapes for use as sculpt bases, and... well, this is interesting. I have a stage where I'm smoothing the mesh, and I was curious what I'd get if I isolated the smoothed vectors and amplified them.

Duplicated some geometry, split it out to a separate object, and it took me a second to realize it took a duplicate of the BuildaBot modifier with it, so it's getting subtracted by the same Collection. Handy.
