#CREATIVES
In particular Aneesh Bhoopathy, from the design coop Forge, who designed the identity. A brilliant reminder to *employ human creatives!*

Teen Vogue was and will always be a special place and I’m so disheartened to see so many talented creatives and editors lose their jobs. But I trust God’s plan. More to come. Here’s to the next adventure! xx

mark this as an example of why carpenter has legitimate claim to the throne of grouchy creatives. you can't just hate, you gotta love, and the love is radiant here
John Carpenter is a big fan of Godzilla and wrote a lovely foreword for the book "Godzilla: The First 70 Years." Here’s an excerpt.

I used to think there couldn't be any creatives more completely and utterly owned by the cruel universe than the Wachowski's but Miyazaki's 'In the twilight of my life my work will be appropriated and become one of the premier aesthetics of fascism' is really, really close

Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.
When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"

The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on

If you’re a working artist talking to other creatives I’m begging you to not hide this. I have a parter who makes more and I don’t hide that and try to be as open as I can especially one on one. It’s cruel to not be honest with your fellow artist and give them any kind of false hope or fear

Whenever professional creatives talk about how hard it is to make ends meet, there are a handful of people who inevitably pop up to say, "No one is entitled to making a living" or "Not everyone is good enough to make a living from art", and it makes me want to break things.

A realization that I had a few years ago is that most current day creatives you admire are probably working multiple jobs, and if they're lucky all of those jobs are creative, but many aren't.

Give yourself slack as you make ends meet, but also we all need to fight for better pay together.
Very, very few comic book creators can survive on just the money they make from comics. It is an inherently unstable job and it is only getting worse as time goes on. Don't ever be embarrassed or ashamed of needing another job so that you can keep making comics.

whenever i see "creatives making a full-time living" discourse pop up i feel compelled to say that while i do work in comics full time, most people that find out how much making a living means in my case, in terms of, like, a dollar amount, go like "what the fuck keezy"

Other full-time creatives are just members of the vast working poor, making ends meet as best we can. It's WILD to think that my part-time, mostly-grant-funded, no-benefits-other-then-flex-time museum work is our "invisible safety net."

I work like a demon on streaming but if I didn't also have my own small business there is no way I'd be able to afford to live on the money

But if you've noticed I'm slow at DMs it's because I stream 7 hours a day after driving 7 hours a day

support your creatives, we're fighting for every penny
