If any were put up in the first place! Not sure my Scottish ancestors would have had any. Certainly very different in the 17th century. Christmas only became a holiday in Scotland in 1958.

It's neat to know your ancestry, but when your generations removed from it, you're not who your ancestors are.

I recently learned an Appalachian tradition my grandfather partook in on Christmas day, First Stepping (sp?) is still a tradition in Scotland. That still doesn't make him Scottish. :x

A Christmas tradition in Dundee, Scotland, home of my ancestors, was giving a gift of a herring wearing a dress! The fancier the frock the better, with many wearing crinolines or dressed as brides. Then the herring was hung above the front door for one year. This one is wearing a knitted fish suit.

Christmas was virtually banned in Scotland for around 400 years-from the end of the 17th century to the 1950s. It wasn’t a public holiday until 1958. I’m sure whiskey drinking went on anyway. (Source: Scots Magazine) #Christmas#Scotland#ancestors
