As a #ColdWarKid in Europe in the 70s, I took pride in a maple leaf flag being sewn into my jean jacket while giving flag-jacking Yank hippies a side-eye for misappropriating them on their backpacks.
Flash forward and Canada's Dad @brittlestar.com pops up in this piece.

But I so want it to bang noisily and fervently horizontally before my eyes!

Cool reminder of being a #ColdWarKid. I had the missile launching kit. Wonder what became of it.

The Viscount Gort! There's an old memory. We stayed there a few times transiting east and west on my father's various military postings. Seemed to be his favourite hotel on government rates.

What a little beauty!
When I lived in West Germany in the early 70s (#ColdWarKid) you could still see a few of these bubble cars on the road. Also, the much rarer tandem two-seater Messerschmidt, which looked like a cut-down WWII fighter plane fuselage on tiny wheels.

I may be disappeared for having Edward Gory tattoos, but I take solace in knowing that none of this ever ends well for these people. (As a Gen-xer, I morn for all of human history, as well) #coldWarKid

When I was a #ColdWarKid air cadet in West Germany, we had one of these Canadair T-Birds (minus engine) in the cadet lounge in the basement of our high school.
Lunch hour cockpit time was the closest I ever got to flying one.

Close enough that Canadian dependents of our NATO-committed soldiers in West Germany were about to be repatriated home. (I was one of them.)

I'm a #ColdWarKid born in 🇨🇦 months ahead of my Dad's NATO posting to West Germany. Zero citizenship issues for me, but not others from my generation born to serving CAF personnel overseas. They had an uphill battle with the federal government, but at least no threat of being expelled to a gulag.

See what I mean? Amazing how much effort it took to achieve that. Reminds me a bit of being a #ColdWarKid in West Germany in the 60s and seeing the post-war recovery up close. The Marshall Plan was miraculous.

Nice! Had it been an earlier tube-driven Tekefunken hi-fi, I would not have hesitated.
My parents brought back an early 60s one from a NATO posting to West Germany.
T'was a monster sound machine for Dad's military march music.
Alas, lost in time due to other transatlantic postings.

Makes me wonder if the Canadian government finally fixed the loophole that left military kids born to Canadian Forces families abroad without Canadian citizenship. IIRC there was some legislation to resolve this but might've been lost on the order paper some time ago.
Any news?
