#Contextuality
There's a lot that Emily Hanford doesn't say in her reporting on SoR. Research on reading points to the complexity, nuance, contextuality, and diverse influences on becoming a successful reader. This is a great overview of a few of the issues with how journalists frame Science of Reading.

Had a great time in Paris!

Talked about our recent preprint arxiv.org/abs/2509.10949

#QuiDiQua3 was great, lots of greats discussions, and talks. Happy also to catch up on some good friends :)

Can't wait for #QuiDiQua4 (next year in Brussels!)

If you exponentiate shannon entropy, it behaves a whole lot like set cardinality :^) Would a singleton distribution with symmetry have negative information? Negative bits appear in interaction information—mutual information for more than two random variables—due to inclusion-exclusion—contextuality?
There's gadgetry we can already use to talk about sharing—groupoid cardinality describes the size of very symmetric objects. A singleton set with a G-action can be assigned cardinality 1/|G|

There's a shadow mathematics of formal negatives of realizable objects showing up in all sorts of places

Contextuality in Anomalous Heat Flow
For a class of quantum systems that exhibit contextuality, a rigorous theoretical connection between anomalous heat flow and quantumness is established, thereby opening avenues to explore nonclassical...

Second, the op-ed desk. Oh boy

The NYT opinion section has no editorial standards when it comes to evidence, accuracy, contextuality, or public relevance

Instead, it is best characterized as a branding endeavor for the NYT to virtue-signal, and worse, a mouthpiece for owner class interests

Does Quantum Theory Hide a Secret Heat Signature?
This article examines the fine-tuning problem in quantum contextuality, where distinctions at the ontological level vanish at the operational level. It explores how this disappearance might be explained through a physical process of information erasure, tied to entropy and potential heat dissipation, echoing earlier ideas like Valentini’s quantum equilibrium. By reframing ontological models as fundamental theories, the piece suggests that quantum theory itself could emerge from a deeper layer of physics, resolving the apparent paradox of contextuality.

Quantum Contextuality Confirmed On Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum Devices
Recent experiments utilising IBM’s noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) processors demonstrate definitive violations of non-contextual hidden variable bounds, specifically through the largest recorded breaches of the Rio Negro inequality and the first successful violation of the classical Mermin game on such hardware, facilitated by the application of finite geometries to generate robust statistical datasets for comparative analysis of quantum contextuality.

The contextuality of wardrobe requirements is wild. Last year in Oxford, I was desperately short of chinos, merino jumpers and goodyear welted shoes. This year in Colorado, it turns out that jeans, plaid flannel shirt, quilted jacket and sneakers are rather more dressy than strictly necessary.
