#EarthsEnergyImbalance
But what’s causing the climate to change in the first place? I’ve read down the thread and nobody seems to know 🤷. Does it have something to do with people not recycling their yogurt pots? Is it cows? Because if we knew what the main cause was we could maybe do something about it 🤷.

Code Yikes!

The latest CO2 data just came in from Mauna Loa and the 3-year rate of CO2 growth just hit a new record high, now growing at a rate of 7.97 ppm per 3 years.

(That dip in the mid-1990's is Mt. Pinatubo. Google is your friend.)

Here's the 365-day running mean, showing 2025 ending at 1.47°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial average. The quadratic trendline says 1.52°C for 2026.

The Climate 8-Ball says "1.58°C will come this way if an El Nino doth the oceans sway." The Climate 8-Ball sucks at poetry.

And it's a wrap. The year 2025 came in at 1.47°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline, making it the 3rd warmest year on record behind 2023 (1.48°C) and 2024 (1.60°C), and likely the 3rd warmest in the last 120,000 years.

🧵 It's hard to believe but 10 years ago today the Paris Agreement was signed at COP21🌎

Where are we at in 2025? Projected warming this century has dropped from ~4°C in 2015 to 2.6°C today, if current emissions reduction pledges are implemented. But a lot more work is needed!

We have already rewound the climate clock to the Pliocene (3C hotter, sea levels ~20m higher)

If we keep on as we are, the even hotter Miocene beckons

Inaction will see our world reprise the early Eocene hothouse, bringing potential oblivion
