Yes, revival of WWII "knowing your place & respecting your betters" is what's behind the plastic patriotism of Facebook. Blended with 1980s fascination with super-rich Americans. Western middle-class culture is always about suppressing & policing egalitarianism.

The fact that the candidate was of a racialised minority, attempting to withstand a barrage of racism from his opponents and come through on a platform of egalitarianism, is something that is bound to resonate worldwide in this historical moment. I'm not clear why this should need to be explained?

Human evolutionary biology seems to disclose a past that was horrific, particularly for women.
Egalitarianism is a revolt against nature--and for human liberty. We must understand the past, because we must overcome it.

The obvious reason for this is that there are many people, perhaps half, who naturally attune to preferences for tradition over change, natural hierarchy over egalitarianism, and domination over cooperation. If you can’t get those people on board with your govt system, your system will collapse.

MFG (ex-Mrs. Bill Gates) is not doing what Mackenzie Scott (ex-Mrs. Jeff Bezos) is doing re shoring up effective grassroots + educational institutions that further egalitarianism. Not sure why but MFG’s *Charity* model is unnecessarily cumbersome, and lacks strong focus on income / ethnic equality.

If left is egalitarian and the right is despotic, then the center is still going to be non-egalitarian. So while the right may not always get the despotism that it wants, they do get the class hierarchy that centrism also wants. Meanwhile the left doesn’t get the egalitarianism that they want.

But money isn't essential; it's just one possible intermediate thing between needs & the labor that satisfies those needs.
**The exchange of labor** is the essential part.
The point of money is to base exchanges of labor on dominance & submission (as opposed to mutual care & egalitarianism).

You can update the rulebook with all the codified egalitarianism you want, the kid raised to believe fervently in Labour vs Tories is still gonna collapse socialist ethics to a moralist's Social Order, to liberal etiquette, at the law & order stage of moral development and may never get beyond that.

early america was culturally egalitarian about wealth—ie the classes mingled, presented similarly and believed themselves to be equals in all but wealth—but economic inequality was tolerated in degrees that shocked foreign visitors (as did the cultural egalitarianism)

Right! By making the “they” who are stealing from “you” vague and formless, all sorts of people can see themselves in the formulation. It’s like a poisoned bizarro version of egalitarianism. Egalitarian hierarchicalism.
