Nice few hours at the start of the FolkLincs new term. Bodhran class first this morning followed by Trad/FolkSong this afternoon - as it’s traditionally apple wassail time we started with a jolly wassail song. I particularly liked the second song we learned tho’ - the Green Man one ♥️

The song we learned today at FolkLincs was the seasonally appropriate “All Among The Barley” ( Roud # 1283) - a really nice melodic song - this one is the Walter Pardon version. 8 of us in our group led/taught by the lovely Kirsty Hannah.

Live Review: Steve Tilston, + Tetherer, The Festival Hall, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire – 12th September 2025
Tonight's venue was a first for me, even though it is situated within a town that I have known for most of my life. Market Rasen lies approximately 13 miles north-east of the city of Lincoln, upon the river Rase that runs east-west through the Town. It was first attested in the Doomsday Book of 1086, where it appeared simply as Rase, which is an Old English word meaning plank, that probably referred to the bridge that crossed the river.

Fab day at FolkLincs (trad music centre)
A fun, tuneful bodhran class this morning. This afternoon an enjoyable folk/trad singing workshop. We covered trad songs from Africa and America, a 13th century English song and 2 sea shanties ending with my favourite shanty, The Wellerman ❤️
So much fun!
