There’s a thing called the Peltzman effect - deliberately accepting more risk because safety measures have been introduced.
Peltzman found people engaged in riskier behaviour and had more crashes when car seatbelts were introduced. #hfesky #safetysky

Our residents who have only trained on VL don't (or can't) position the patient properly and need to use a bougie most of the intubations. When it really gets tricky they'll struggle

It’s likely that experts gain less in terms of reduction of physical stress due to awkward body posture than novices as they have refined technique over time.
Maybe though, training of DL & VL both need to emphasise body posture and physical ergonomics of intubation?

This speaks to trust and the degree of automation. A good analogy is that of a self driving car. A self driving car and a purely manual car might be safer than partially autonomous vehicles as the purpose of the automation and trust in it is unclear
