#Helicoprion

Gotta be my big bright blue Kharibdyss! This was one of the most airbrush-centric painting projects I'd done up to that point, and I'm so happy with how it turned out.

that comic is not even an exaggeration i literally logged in like last week or the week before and rin just. ran into my screen out of nowhere, opened up a trade, and showed me the helicoprion and magic carpet and i was like oh ok we're about to witness something truly based

Helicoprion is easily my favorite example of humanity going "what the hell is this?!" And then creating what is effectively a mythical creature

Helicoprion now with gill slits, thank you for the advice!!

I am constantly blown away by how weird and wonderful nature can be! 🦈

This remarkable fossil is believed to be the lower jaw of a Helicoprion, an extinct group of shark-like fish that lived more than 270 million years ago during the Permian.

Its mouth was basically a buzz saw. 🤯

The Buzzsaw Devil

Helicoprion is an extinct genus of Shark-like Eugenodont fish that lived in early up to middle Permian. The closest living relative of this creature is the Chimaeras Fish, although their relation is quite distant.

Told a friend “give me an animal” and he says fucking helicoprion

What.

My Christmas lesson from my son was him telling me about helicoprion. I thought he was making it up… alas no, I’m the little girl in your picture.

My god, I thought you were someone to rely on

Me? I guess I was a Helicoprion

Probably wise. Everyone's actual favourite is of course the spiral-jawed shark helicoprion but no-one wants to kick off a first date on that note. Lobe fins are less confrontational

Some kind of (deep) sea theme could be interesting maybe? 👀
(I know it's not a reptile, pterosaur or mammal... I just wanna throw Helicoprion in here as a suggestion, cause they're weird and cool and I don't see them a lot xD)

The first page of y'all's creatures! Started the second one today and already in love (of course)

Thank y'all who've commented so far, please anyone who hasn't fill free to reply with your favorite sea creatures or insect! 💛

Paleoartists are mad talented because the scientist would be like, "Hey we found this set of teeth, and a few fragments of shark remains, now you draw it."
Some people wanted time machine to change the world, but I just want to go back to see what the actual thing this creature is.

Helicoprion? There's a beautiful fossil of the jaw in the American Museum of Natural History in Nyc.NYC. I've been fascinated with them ever since I've seen it!
