Along the way to the dam we ride through some beautiful spaces. This old dirt road is soft for their bare hooves and has patches of snow. The brown oak leaves and mixed conifer greens are such peaceful colors. #horsesky #arabianhorse #trailhorse #trailride #Colorado

Memories have been sparked!
Here’s something from prior to empty nest. My daughter. Her Quarter Horse, Violet, is being patient as she reaches into the ice chest for a beer at a national forest trailhead. Typical trail ride back then hehe.

Yesterday’s amazing mountain ride. It was a glorious glacier lily day of glacier lilies. We reached 11,000 feet and I feel great now. Pasaaaast time for an altitude adjustment!

Glacier lily. One of my most beloved flowers to find - early bloomers in the high country. El Diente Peak, a Colorado fourteener that we often ride to for it borders the Navajo Basin in Lizard Head Wilderness. Seen in the distance from the edge of the land along our trail. Between the ears view from horseback: my bay Arab heart-horse, Zil. We’re heading into a tunnel of young aspen trees, just opening their shimmering green-gold leaves. Mountains - and Zil - saved my sanity. Hubby, facing away from me, photographs the distant fourteener, astride his red-spotted leopard appaloosa mare . Her lovely butt fills a good quarter of the picture, but her head and ears are turned back toward me. She’s either unimpressed with her rider’s picture-taking, or doesn’t care to look over the sheer, very far down drop-off he’s parked her in front of.

Between the ears of my sorrel quarter horse, Violet, following a game trail along the river. Barrel cactus. Bright green, low to the ground, with three beautiful flowers with shiny white petals and sunbursts in the center! Today we saw a hummingbird way out here. They might be feeding on these and the tiny white daisies. The first flowers we’ve seen this spring and the only ones out here. Me riding my sorrel quarter horse, Violet, in a very shallow part of the river.
