Music this week is Kim Deal's newest, cello-naut Anastasia Kobekina's "Venice" and The Pilfers "Chawaleng". I interviewed bucket when this came out and I can't believe I don't have the CD anymore. This was the pinnacle of 90s 3rd wave. Vinny Nobile, tromboner, was fantastic on it.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Cadogan Hall for an evening of operatic passion conducted by Stephanie Childress, with a special arrangement of Bizet's Carmen by José Serebrier, music from Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, and his Variations on a Rococo Theme with Anastasia Kobekina.

Before this, I’ve seen only one, Anastasia Kobekina’s Bach: Cello Suites (amazing album btw), which just zooms in and out of the cover—silly and pointless but harmless. I haven’t really noticed any others.

Hrůša (conducting from memory in Asrael) was magnificent, as were the orchestra. From our Choir East seats, the bass drum's 'death knocking' at the end of i was absolutely tremendous! Kobekina's encore was by her father, Vladimir Kobekin (as per the for3 messageboard).

The BBc Radio 3 Prom last night was an utter joy - Dvorak Cello Concerto and Suk’s grief ridden ‘Asrael’ symphony. Anastasia Kobekina’s cello playing was the most exquisite combination of love and deeply felt heartache, longing and recovery. The Suk expresses grief so poignantly. Czech Phil. Top.
