LA County wants to make it harder to evict tenants amid ongoing ICE raids
However, landlord groups argued that the existing system already makes it harder for property owners to stay afloat.

#LATenantsUnion #LATU organized a public spreadsheet to document #landlords who have price-gouged rent during the fires (over 100) prompting the #Mayor (s) Office to create a hotline for people to report illegal #pricegouging www.counterpunch.org/2025/01/31/a...

So @latenantsunion is on here but is updating on Xwitter, not here. But here's the link where you can both search and report on properties that are being offered with price gouging.

L.A. Tenants Union - No Wages? No Rent! An eviction moratorium is not enough! We should not have to pay rent AT ALL as long as we can’t work or our hours are drastically cutback! The coronavirus crisis, and the necessary measures to save lives, hit poor and working class tenants the hardest. More than 80% already pay rents that are unaffordable — meaning they have to take money from other necessities like food, clothing and health care just to keep a roof over their heads. This means that most of us have not been able to save enough to cover even a few weeks of basic expenses if we lose our jobs or work hours. This is exactly what has happened. A national survey found that 25% of all Americans had already been laid off or had their hours cut back as of last weekend. It will get worse. In just one neighborhood in Boyle Heights, 30% of Tenants Union members had lost their jobs as of yesterday and that was before the ordered shutdowns of restaurants and other workplaces had begun. Yes, we need the eviction moratoriums, but they are not enough, and they are being passed with booby traps — like provisions that we have to catch up on missed rent payments within six months. Catch up how ? Tenants are barely making it now, don’t have savings, and are not going to get pay raises if and when they go back to work. We need a total suspension of rents, utilities, taxes and mortgage payments for the duration of this crisis. If the landlords and the government won’t give us this fair demand, we can take it for ourselves with a GENERAL MASS RENT STRIKE! #April1stRentStrike | Facebook
