I've prepared a Stage 3 briefing for MSPs on the Land Reform (Scotland) Bill questioning whether the complex administrative processes in the Bill can really be justified if there is no meaningful impact on the pattern of landownership in Scotland. andywightman.scot/2025/10/stag...

Everyone who has family in kibbutzim and in a moshav knows that. But landownership isn't only an ideologically case, it is also bound to secular law and taking someone else's land is illegal.

Do you think money lobbying and corporate influence play no role in shaping SCOTUS nominations or Senate policy? Would the institutions exist in the same form without a society built on slavery, landownership and capital accumulation?

Interesting story from @theobserveruk.bsky.social on the aristocracy's ability to hold onto power - citing research that the British gentry were as influential in public life in 2018 as 1858. All underpinned by the wealth and power that comes with landownership observer.co.uk/news/opinion...

Whether it’s a walk, a workshop, an open day or a celebration—this is a great opportunity to share your story, connect with others, and show what community landownership looks like in action.

To an extent yes. But the first settlers were men promised riches to be bestowed upon them by their monarch. It wasn’t until decades after the first settlements that emigration was based on the desire for different/opportunity. And with that often it was the “promise” of enrichment/landownership.

Now Carey Doyle on Scotlands community rights to buy. Sobering to be reminded 2003 Part 2 right (which forms basis of current Bill) has not been activated since 2017 when the grand total of 1 was. This is NOT the means by which to tackle concentrated landownership.

Black landownership is declining due to discrimination, heirs’ property issues & predatory lending. 40 Acre Conservation League is reclaiming land, empowering communities & building the next generation of diverse nature advocates. Let’s change the narrative together. 🌱✊🏾

This will be my goal. Good on you for optimizing your landownership for dwelling.

The assumption that everyone will build their own house in the US is archaic, feeds hubris, and is generally unsustainable in totality.

Infinite growth is stupid, I think it's cool you're thinking of their future.

Numbers aren’t romantic. The narrative of farming and food wins hearts though it’s false. Farming needs reform, but here it’s landownership we’re actually dealing with. #farming #land #landownership #wealth
lost track of the number of journalists writing that farmers will get hit with IHT above a £1m threshold *for their entire estate*

ignoring the reality that it’s £1m of land per person on top of existing IHT threshold of up to £1m (£3m max)

feels like a major comms failure by government as well

Definition of the "reconstruction"

The south accepted terrible working conditions bcs the non-whites (not just black) were suffering more.

The promised of landownership & partaking in privileges of the "American-English monarchy"

The only thing they got: Privilege of white skin.

2. Public and community landownership does not necessarily portend better outcomes for nature. Landowners of all varieties are guided by diverse motivations and incentives.
