Coolste BN'er die ik ooit zag was Bram van der Vlugt. Ik stond te wachten in de rij voor het Mauritshuis op een zondagochtend. Iemand mocht de hele rij zomaar voorbij en dat irriteerde mij.

I saw it 30Y ago at a major Vermeer exhibit at the Mauritshuis.
It was an unforgettable experience.

Being a curious character, I stopped in Delft on the way back home to take a look at the city from the vantage point Vermeer painted it. Here's a site about it.

after i visited mauritshuis something is stirring in me constantly, i feel like i need to go there again and really look at the art pieces one more time... haunted by Jan Brueghel the Elder and Peter Paul Rubens as well as Master of Frankfurt.... what amazing painters

If we stand today before the large canvas of Rembrandt’s The Anatomy Lesson in the Mauritshuis we are standing precisely where those who were present at the dissection in the Waaggebouw stood, and we believe that we see what they saw then: in the foreground, the greenish, prone body of Aris Kindt, his neck broken and his chest risen terribly in rigor mortis. And yet it is debatable whether anyone ever really saw that body, since the art of anatomy, then in its infancy, was not least a way of making the reprobate body invisible. It is somehow odd that Dr Tulp’s colleagues are not looking at Kindt’s body, that their gaze is directed just past it to focus on the open anatomical atlas in which the appalling physical facts are reduced to a diagram, a schematic plan of the human being, such as envisaged by the enthusiastic amateur anatomist René Descartes, who was also, so it is said, present that January morning in the Waaggebouw. In his philosophical investigations, which form one of the principal chapters of the history of subjection, Descartes teaches that one should disregard the flesh, which is beyond our comprehension, and attend to the machine within, to what can fully be understood, be made wholly useful for work, and, in the event of any fault, either repaired or discarded. Though the body is open to contemplation, it is, in a sense, excluded, and in the same way the much admired verisimilitude of Rembrandt’s picture proves on closer examination to be more apparent than real.

The Mauritshuis in the Hague had a great exhibition about the museum in WW2, where they compromised and why, where they stood firm.

But I honestly don't know how, say, the National Museum of African American History and Culture or the National Museum of the American Indian can continue to exist.

Saul and David was considered one of Rembrandt’s most famous paintings and a highlight of the Mauritshuis collection from the time of its acquisition in 1898 until 1969, when it’s attribution was rejected and the picture lost much of its allure. After a long period of study and treatment, the painting is once again the focus of attention as the centrepiece of the exhibition Rembrandt? The Case of Saul and David. In the exhibition we tell the gripping story of the painting’s history, the research, the conservation treatment and the advanced techniques that were used. And we give the final answer: Yes, it's a Rembrandt!

Kleef, 20 december 1679. Johan Maurits bijgenaamd ‘de Braziliaan’ en bouwheer van (nu museum) het Mauritshuis overleed. Johan Maurits was een kleinzoon van Jan VI ‘de Oude’ van Nassau, broer van Willem de Zwijger. In 2022 werd het 200-jarig bestaan van het museum uitgebreid gevierd. 1/2
