The only thing worse than repeat, unsafe detours of our most used Greenway is last min date changes.
Heads up that the @midtowngreenway detour (at 1st Ave S) is now planned for Nov 1-9!

When this detour was put in place on @midtowngreenway , signs were added saying “dismount bikes.”
If a detour requires dismounting, it’s not a good enough detour (not everyone can dismount & walk a bike).
I appreciate whoever modified the sign.

On most bike infrastructure we set the pace for our kids due to needing to check every intersection, narrower bikeways (that can be busy), leaving space between cars, etc.
But on the @midtowngreenway they can go as fast as they want. It's a special place.

Update: There are hundreds of elementary kids at this summer school that has a @midtowngreenway exit directly onto school grounds. Weather was perfect today. There were a good # of parents dropping kids off via cargo bike but VERY few kids riding their own bikes.

My 7 year old rode 4.5 miles to summer school this morning, including the uphill on the Sabo bridge! This is only possible due to the safety and comfort of the @midtowngreenway .

This is something that the @midtowngreenway in Minneapolis is not nearly as good at, 20 years after it was started. Don’t get me wrong, the Greenway is wonderful, but it’s wonderful as off-road transportation. It barely makes the grade [pun intended] as public space

What you can’t hear in the picture is the freeway traffic I endured the sounds of for this view. One of the many reasons I hope we can extend the @midtowngreenway over the Mississippi is it would give a rare quiet crossing of the river with an amazing view.
