People from England’s most deprived areas who present to hospital after self-harm are less likely to receive psychosocial assessment, general admission, or outpatient mental health referrals than those from the least deprived areas. Inequalities in care may worsen outcomes. #NCISH2025

Dr Jodie Westhead et al. investigated antecedents of suicide in veterans of the UK Armed Forces. They found that in-service trauma and post-service adjustment problems were uncommon in veterans who died by suicide. However, conventional risk factors of suicide were common #NCISH2025 1/2

Dr Shilpa Aggarwal et al. investigated self-harm in children and young people who died by suicide. They found that girls were twice as likely to self-harm than boys, 49% had a history of self-harm, with 26% in the 3 months prior to death #NCISH2025 1/3
