The heat pressed in gently, then all at once. Nathan's breath slowed, sweat tracing the line of his spine. The world narrowed to pulse and darkness and the sound of breathing his own, and Daniel's beside him. "Stay close," Daniel murmured. Nathan nodded, though Daniel couldn't see it. Time loosened. At first it was only color behind Nathan's eyes—embers, deep red, the suggestion of firelight. Then shapes began to form. Trees. Snow. A hand gripping another, knuckles white with effort. He swallowed. Daniel's breathing hitched. "I see them," Daniel whispered, voice unsteady. "Do you see them?" Nathan did not answer right away. A man knelt in the snow, dark hair braided tight, shoulders shaking as he held another against his chest. Blood soaked through wool. The air smelled of iron and pine. The man lifted his head. And looked straight at him. Nathan's heart lurched—not with fear, but with certainty. "Yes," he said softly. "I see them." The vision shifted. Fire again. Hands clasped. A word spoken low, carried more in breath than sound "Stay." The heat eased, slowly. The darkness lightened. When they emerged from the lodge, the night air felt impossibly cool. Daniel sat heavily on the ground, head in his hands. Nathan knelt beside him without thinking, one hand settling between Daniel's shoulders. "They were real," Daniel said. Not a question. Nathan nodded. "They still are." Daniel looked up at him then, eyes bright with tears and something steadier beneath it. "You knew." "I've known for a while," Nathan said. "I just didn't have proof." Daniel exhaled, leaning forward until their foreheads touched "Then we carry it," Daniel said. "The story. Them." Nathan closed his eyes. "Together." They stayed like that for a long moment, the past still warm against their skin-not haunting, not demanding. Just remembered. They didn't speak right away. The night wrapped around them, cool and grounding after the heat. Somewhere nearby, someone laughed-too far away to intrude. Daniel finally broke the silence. "I didn't bring you here to... convince you of anything." Nathan smiled faintly. "I know." Daniel hesitated, then added, "I just didn't want to be alone with it anymore." Nathan turned to him then, really looked at him. "Neither did I." Daniel's breath caught—not sharply, just enough to notice. Nathan shifted closer, their knees touching. He didn't move away this time. "I've spent my life studying things that are gone," Nathan said softly. "And tonight, for the first time, it didn't feel like loss."

Present Day- Atlanta The room smelled faintly of ozone and overheated plastic. Nathan sat still as the simulation wound down, heart still pounding in a body that was no longer Jeremiah's. The firelight faded first. Then the weight. Then the ache. A soft chime sounded. SESSION COMPLETED He didn't move. He could still feel the cold. The tension in his shoulders. The memory of someone else's breath against his neck. "Every time," he muttered. The visor lifted automatically. Light flooded back inharsh, fluorescent, wrong. "Sir?" a technician asked gently. "Vitals are stable. Do you need a moment?" "Yes," he said, voice rough. "Just—yes." The tech nodded, already stepping away. They were used to this. Deep-immersion historical programs weren't for casual users. Nathan removed the neural band slowly, fingers trembling just slightly. Jeremiah always stayed with him longer than the others. Not the battles. Not Congress. Not even the imprisonment. It was the cabin. The quiet. The sense of choosing someone in a world designed to erase them. He swallowed and stood slowly, his head spinning from the experience. Later - Convention Hall The place was loud in the way only conventions could be—layered sound, overlapping realities. Booths glowed with holo-displays advertising everything from Roman legions to Martian colonies. He drifted past them without interest, Then he stopped dead in his tracks. Across the aisle, a man laughed-warm, unguarded. Dark hair pulled back loosely. Broad shoulders. A tattoo visible above the collarbone: claw marks arcing across skin like a crescent. Nathan's breath caught. No, he told himself immediately. Don't be ridiculous. That can't be. He stood there motionless. The man turned, eyes meeting his. For a moment, neither of them spoke. It was like an old romance when the two characters just stared at each other and didn't know what to do next. "You look like you've seen a ghost," the man said, half-smiling. Nathan shook his head. "No. I-sorry. You just... remind me of someone." The man tilted his head, studying him with open curiosity. "Someone important?" "Yes," Nathan said before he could stop himself. "Very." A beat passed. Something unspoken hovered there-familiar without reason. "I'm Daniel," the man said at last, offering a hand. "I'm here for the colonial warfare panel. You?" Nathan took his hand, and flinched. A sudden spark ignited within him. The contact was brief, Ordinary. but yet... something in his chest settled. A vision flashed in his mind briefly. "I'm..." He hesitated. The name he used professionally felt suddenly flimsy. "I'm Nate. I work on early American history. Immersive reconstruction. Story driven gameplay." Daniel's eyes lit. "You're kidding. I'm a consultant on indigenous representation. I've been fighting with developers all weekend about lazy tropes." Nathan laughed softly. "Then you're losing sleep for the right reasons." Daniel smiled wider. "You sound like you've been in the thick of it." "I have," Nathan said, and meant something far stranger than Daniel could ever know. They fell into step together, walking toward the coffee stand. "You ever try the deep-immersion builds?" Daniel asked casually. Nathan paused. "Yes," he said carefully. "One in particular." They stood there, the noise of the convention swelling around them.

They just seem to identify players that anyone knows is decent. Agree with Nathan’s point 100% that we either target ok over priced prem players or high upside youth players who aren’t first team ready. What about players entering their prime but aren’t in the PL and therefore attainable?
