#NotableMarylandBills
Good morning (Not evening, I know, long day yesterday, short docket today, seemed like a good tradeoff to make) & welcome to the first Thursday edition of #NotableMarylandBills for #MDGA26. It's a light day in Annapolis to close out the first full week of session but still interesting enough, I hope
Back this evening with Thurs.'s bills since A: there are no House bill hearings tomorrow & B: neither chamber has any bill hearings on Fri. this week (As is pretty common well into most sessions)

And we're back to wrap up the Wed. edition of #NotableMarylandBills. Picking up where we left off, we close out the Senate side for today w/ 3 bills out of the Judicial Proceedings Committee, all departmental/administrative...
Back in a bit w/ JPR & the one House committee with bill hearings, followed by Thurs.'s bills. But first, a walk from this dog

More #NotableMarylandBills tomorrow, Thursday’s juuuuust light enough that I think I can get away with a double-day thread…. (Famous last words)

Good evening & welcome to the first #NotableMarylandBills of #MDGA26. New Year, new Speaker, new committees, new committee chairs, same old wonkery!

Picking up w/ more #NotableMarylandBills from last Thurs., 3 of them out of Education, Energy, & the Environment, including HB 317, @nwilliams22.bsky.social’s bill to establish the “Curbside Voting Pilot Program”: mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/L.... It passed the House last mo. 112-28.

As good a time as any to pick up #NotableMarylandBills from last week, starting last Wed. in the House Judiciary Committee....
Actually 3 bills, one of which is not immigration related. That’d be HB 1378 from Del. C.T. Wilson, reluctantly reinstituting the statute of limitations on child sex abuse lawsuits against the State of Maryland removed a few years back by the Child Victims Act: mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/L....

Time for a couple more #NotableMarylandBills
HB 1440 from @robbynlewis46th.bsky.social would require courthouses to provide lactation rooms for breastfeeding mothers & allow some mothers of young children to be excused from jury service in certain circumstances: mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/L.... The House passed it on 3/13 138-0.
March 29, 2025 at 7:33 PM
Back for more #NotableMarylandBills before, like half of the General Assembly, I tune out for Opening Day. Starting w/ a trio of bills reviewed by the House Appropriations Committee this past Tues....
Finally for the Senate for Tues., HB 1236 from Del. Steven Arentz would allow Queen Anne’s Co. municipalities to decrease their speed limits to as little as 15 mph without having to do an engineering & traffic investigation first: mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/L.... It passed the House 3/17 139-0.
March 27, 2025 at 5:14 PM
Picking #NotableMarylandBills back up w/ 7 bills heard by the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee yesterday. One of them is HB 853 from Del. Cheryl Pasteur, aka the “Second Look Act”: mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/L.... An import criminal justice bill, it passed the House St. Patrick’s Day 89-49*

Good afternoon & welcome to another week of #NotableMarylandBills, the penultimate one for #MDGA25, actually. Theoretically I'm trying to make this the sole thread for the week but if I take a day or two to finish it, so be it; either way Fri. doesn't have any bill hearings.

Resuming last week’s #NotableMarylandBills now that Bluesky is unglitched & will let me post images again…
Paused for now because Bluesky keeps giving me an “Internal Server Error” message every time I try to make the next post.
March 23, 2025 at 7:45 PM
2 days later, even (No Fri. bill hearings this week so there’s only 2 days worth of bills to catch up on, thanks to the combo of the usual immediate post-crossover sleepiness & everyone gearing up for the budget floor debates.) Anyhow, let’s wrap up #NotableMarylandBills for the week, shall we?
Back w/ today’s highlights later.

Good afternoon & welcome to the first post-Crossover edition of #NotableMarylandBills for #MDGA25. As longtime readers from Twitter may remember, w/ the exception of the first year or two of these threads, the whole exercise has really tended to peter out rather abruptly come Crossover time…
March 19, 2025 at 6:55 PM
Wrapping up the House side of Thurs.’s #NotableMarylandBills while we all wait for the U.S Senate to get their act in gear. That starts w/ a trio of bills to round out the Economic Matters highlights for the week….
Back w/ the House tomorrow
March 14, 2025 at 8:09 PM
Good afternoon & welcome to the Wed/Thurs. edition of #NotableMarylandBills. W/ just 4 days ‘til Crossover, floor sessions & voting sessions are accounting for a lot more of the action in Annapolis this week but there’s still a decent amount of bills worth checking out from yesterday & today…
March 13, 2025 at 6:39 PM
Tues. #NotableMarylandBills continue now w/ 6 bills from the House Health & Government Operations Committee (I could've sworn there'd be more to highlight given that they were literally there until 10:00 last night but happy to keep it a little more manageable)...
Back tomorrow/today w/ the last 3 House committees & Wed.’s bills (It’s gonna be another floor-heavy day)
March 12, 2025 at 6:52 PM
Good afternoon/evening & welcome to the Tues. edition of #NotableMarylandBills. I'm guessing pretty much every committee has/will spend more time on the floor than in bill hearings today but that doesn't mean there haven't still been plenty of the latter...
March 11, 2025 at 8:56 PM
Good afternoon & welcome to not just another week of #NotableMarylandBills but one of the biggest of them all, Crossover Week itself! We're starting off quietly enough, w/ just 2 committees holding bill hearings today, both in the House, but A: it won't stay that quiet...

Look no further than the work Lisa and @bsoderberg.bsky.social were doing after City Paper shut down to know that Lisa speaks the truth. @skatingtomato.bsky.social has #notablemarylandbills. @socialistdogmom.bsky.social just started going to C’ville council meetings. You too can be a journalist.
I am NOT saying quit your day job. But I am saying it’s possible to start slowly and with intention. And you don’t need millions or an angel donor to do it.
March 9, 2025 at 3:52 PM
Good evening & welcome to a special Thurs./Fri. of #NotableMarylandBills. The dockets in Annapolis yesterday & today were sufficiently light enough that this shouldn’t take TOO long to get through so let’s get going…
March 7, 2025 at 11:21 PM
As promised, more of Wed.'s #NotableMarylandBills, starting w/ 4 out of the House Health & Government Operations Committee. HB 1053 from Del. Jason Buckel clarifies options for self-directed services recipients & their parents: mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/L...
March 6, 2025 at 11:08 PM
Good afternoon & welcome to the Wed. edition of #NotableMarylandBills. It's not QUITE as busy a day as Tues. was for a lot of committees but as you'd expect 5 days into March, Annapolis is hardly lacking for legislative action right now either so let's dig in...
March 5, 2025 at 7:38 PM
Tues. #NotableMarylandBills part 2 picks things back up w/ 6 bills out of Economic Matters, including a consumer protection bill on AI from Del. Lily Qi, HB 1331: mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/L...
March 5, 2025 at 4:29 PM
Good evening & welcome to the Tues. edition of #NotableMarylandBills. I know I'm starting a little on the late side but I figure a lot of you aren't watching TV tonight so it all works out! Anyhow, we begin w/ 5 bills out of the Senate Budget & Taxation Committee...
