I miss OG dA so much, the community there used to be so robust and it was so easy to find the art you like. I wistfully miss art memes and OCTs so much, they were such a great way to engage and have fun with art friends. The old school dA UI is seriously under-rated and let us do so many fun things!

Really dating myself here but watching stuff like Law of Talos and Escape from Nevara on the sidelines got me into OCTs waaay back in high school. Joined a BUNCH over the years. Judged a bunch too. Judging for Walking City and Tower 1-2 were my highlights. Winning AFL5 and NukeTown were too.

I'm one of those fresh-faced newbies who showed up entirely because of W4R but I don't think I hit my stride until the Goku Royale trilogy. All this to say every time i hear about the OCTs that preceded me I am struck with terror.

Mulligrubs-OCT was one of the tournaments I met some of my current closest friends! (Not biased cuz I won that istg)
After that its probably Splinter OCT because its gripped my brain by the nuts.
I attribute a lot of my 10+ year old ride or die friendships to OCTs in general.

I heard about OCTs around 2013-2015, especially when a bunch of friends wanted to join Artists At The Ready. The first OCT I fully participated in was Push the Button and it was fun to show off my oldest OC. I'm glad that I kept touch with a few friends that were in it too

The OCT that got me into the community was Sue Me in 2017! It was a nice community that eased me into the way things worked, preparing me for other OCTs I'd join later. Dreamcatcher, Caelum Crew and Summer Leagues S1 all have equal value to me, and I still look back on them all fondly ^^

DAMN MEMORY BLAST I actually applied for Escape from Nevara when I was 14 - got rejected of course, was so embarrassed I deleted everything I made for it haha. Always found OCTs so cool though - but boy are they commitments! Law of Talos and the Endzone were the raddest thing I'd ever seen as a kid.

LRP is correct tho -- before DEITIES Project I made a slew of other characters for OCTs, for RP Groups, for AUs, for plotting b/w friends, and sometimes "just cuz"! And I still do!!
It's not any less valid if they aren't all from the same cohesive storyline, OCs can just exist for their own sake.

Ah, the reign of OCTs, I remember those days. I think it's silly that they'd reject a pair of fighters, but I'm glad these concepts could be recycled and it's Your City Now and you can have all the battlin' duos you want. :P

arguably the hardest part of participating in OCTs is drawing your competitor's OC
always nervous about doing them justice, and even if i get all the detail technically right, it can be difficult to capture the right vibes
