Open-Washing AI is now turning from a marketing ploy into a viable regulatory strategy. Trying to avoid scrutiny, make your model a tiny bit open-source without sharing anything.

'Open-washing' generative AI: How Meta, Google and others feign openness
The past year has seen a steep rise in generative AI systems that claim to be open. But how open are they really? New research shows there's widespread practice of "open-washing" by companies like Meta ...

I wrote about #OpenWashing recently and what #OpenSource means in #AI. The concept of open in AI is stretched, to put it mildly.

I get a feeling you just want to stick to your opinions, which is fine tbh. At the same time I haven't find any connection to your claim of openwashing and OSAID

I like that Scylla is at least honest about becoming proprietary here. So much openwashing of these kinds of license changes these days.

Also, nothing makes me feel better about choosing the boring option (Postgres) than every single one of these projects eventually doing rugpulls like this.

There are already people migrating to their own PDS; but that's probably not viable for the average user.

The relay is probably the most expensive piece to replace, but probably possible to selectively crawl your own little slice of the network.

I don't think Openwashing applies here though

You can devide the foss licenses basically in two groups: Permissive and CopyLeft. BSD-3 is a permissive licence you can even use it in a proprietary product. We have a full course on this matter in our institute. It's what our companies lawyers tell. Only GPLv3 and AGPLv3 are save from #openwashing

I like “white-collar QRP”! Also reminds me of “openwashing” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Openwas...

I get that even this tick-box transparency might viewed positively, but I do love Berna’s point on this…
It's a weird framing to me. We don't know of this issue thanks to preregistration; the issue exists because of preregistration. But sure, let's have all kinds of tools and let's be honest about how they work or not instead of turning them into inevitable, sacred objects.
