The US is the UNSC penholder for Western Sahara. In the first Trump presidency US recognised Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara in exchange for Morocco normalising relations with Israel. Now U.S. says that genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the preferred framework.
