Happy #FossilFriday! Part 3 from the @childrensmuseum.bsky.social in #Indiana! Seriously so much there even beyond the Dinosphere, from giant ammonites to marine reptiles (this one is Plioplatecarpus) to Dracorex to a local Mastodon. Floor after floor, there is more to find!

Happy ##MosasaurMonday from our reconstruction of MOR 1062, the holotype of Plioplatecarpus peckensis!

This copy was supplied to the Dimosaurs and Mor! Event this past March.

This bug-eyed little mosasaur comes from the Bearpaw shale of Montana, 75ish million years old . 🧪

Happy #FossilFriday! Dive into the Cretaceous depths with Plioplatecarpus peckensis (MOR 1082)! This small (~3m long) mosasaur pursued prey in the Western Interior Seaway while dinosaurs roamed the land.

Quite small in most mosasaurs, in Plioplatecarpus the frontoparietal formamen is HUGE. What exactly were these beasts up to with that so-called "third eye"? Very much at the center of my current research.

New Plioplatecarpus peckensis skeletal mount 🤩🤩🤩 love to see Bearpaw mosasaurs and ESPECIALLY plioplatecarpines getting the limelight.

I’m super lucky to have consulted a bit for this and some other upcoming mounts… Stop by the MOR the first week of July for the rest!

#MosAdvent #13: cast of a monster Plioplatecarpus on display at the North Dakota State Museum. Not that any mosasaurs are really small, but this one stands out as particularly large for a plioplatecarpine. The real bones are on display below, next to a piece of Huge Squid.

Paleo Fact!

Plioplatecarpus (More Flat Wrist) is a mosasaurid from Late Cretaceous North America and Europe! It had proportionally large eyes, which were likely an adaptation for low light conditions, which imply that either it was a nocturnal animal or it was capable- (1/2)

My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

In 2010 I created 2 large acrylic paintings for the GeoCenter Møns Klint, Denmark. Here are some close-up sections of the first, a Cretaceous wide view including Mosasaurus, Plioplatecarpus, a giant squid, & others.
