Bit of a mammoth effort but this large patch of uncut meadow, on the Middle Farm Way slope, has now been cut and raked. Surprised to see some whopping ant hills in amongst the grass. Wall Brown still on the wing, and about 20 House Martins feeding over the meadow. #PoundburyNatureProject

Found a third Bee Orchid colony in Poundbury, but only after I had mown two of them down! They are quite hard to see especially through safety glasses. See if you can spot them in these photos. #Poundburynatureproject.

Started mowing the Middle Farm Way Slope. These areas of rank grassland benefit from being mown now, to shift the plant communities to more flowery ones, with finer grasses (& Yellow-Rattle). Ox-Eye Daisy & Teasel patches have been left. Dogwood regrowth has also been mown. #PoundburyNatureProject

The Swale/Damers' Meadow on the Great Field (Poundbury) is looking great. Lots of Yellow-Rattle and Kidney Vetch this year, after I cut it back really hard in the Autumn. The Yorkshire Fog (which had dominated in places) is also looking a lot less happy than it was last year. #PoundburyNatureProject

I took the opportunity of some dry days to finish off mowing /raking an area called The Swale, on The Great Field, Poundbury. There was some really nasty matted Yorkshire Fog and Common Bent, which needed to be tackled. A new blade on the Brushcutter made all the difference. #PoundburyNatureProject.
