#RescueOnFractalus
To be fair, the only "newsworthy" bit of your hypothetical article would be the "Legendary #gamedev David Fox" part❣️ @davidbfox.com

Also, any mention of #ZakMcKracken, #LucasArts, #MonkeyIsland, #ThimbleweedPark, #RescueonFractalus, #IndianaJones, #ManiacMansion & #Labyrinth is a guaranteed hit! ♥️

My Devcom 2025 talk on my first #LucasfilmGames title #RescueOnFractalus is now online for those who attended the conference, or have paid for the digital pass.

Hopefully in about three months I should be able to post it on YouTube as well.

The Atari 5200 wasn't my first console (that would have to be the 2600), but it WAS the first console I developed a game for. #RescueOnFractalus released in 1984 by Atari-Lucasfilm Games.

Fun fact: Both the running pilot and cockpit pilot were me, photographed at Industrial Light and Magic.

Some outtakes from the #RescueOnFractalus Lucasfilm photo shoot. I was trying to get my wedding ring in the photo, to show that someone (actually @anniefox.com) was waiting at home, so you'd better help!

Funny, they used the one of me "unconscious". I'm a much better actor asleep. gamedev

Whoa I hadn’t seen this newer version of Luke’ Software fan remake of #rescueonfractalus — first time I’ve seen the mothership flying and as a 3D model. The original Atari GTIA 16 shades of grey version was created by Jim St.Louis. This version looks extremely faithful to Jim’s vision. The game […]

Actually, the back of the box also included a photo of me, downed pilot, on his last legs, waiting you'll buy the game and rescue him. I also got to be inside the manual, must have been before I was shot down, since I look kind of cocky.

I loved the Apple II. But the Atari did a much better job with #RescueOnFractalus. And Labyrinth was best on the C64. Hopefully you enjoyed it!

I'm going to re-think my display here, I'll bring up my #RescueOnFractalus flight helmet (from the game cover photo shoot), a model of an Imperial Shuttle I built decades ago, and find a place for my new lightsaber and Kyber Crystals... I think it will look good here. Inspired by @kathrynyu.com

The fire was real. ILM put some flammable glue on the cockpit and light it, standing by with a fire hydrant in case things went south. Worst part was the odor of those burning chemicals. ILM did the covers and manuals for both #RescueOnFractalus and #Ballblazer, our first two games.

Well, I did kind of get to remake #RescueOnFractalus as a simulator pod experience in 1991, but this time in the StarWars universe. So much fun!

Thanks @paulartreeves.bsky.social for digging up this ancient interview and your kind words about #RescueOnFractalus. Along with Ballblazer, it was originally meant to be an experimental throw away game, but we were all pleased with how they both looked. Both were published together in 1984. gamedev
Rescue On Fractalus was the first game by Lucasfilm Games aka LucasArts & one of the the most important games ever created. Initially intended to be a Star Wars game, it was one of the first games to use procedural generated fractal landscapes, making each game unique. This is one of the greats.

Fantastic article! #RescueOnFractalus was such an extraordinary game, an absolutely evolutionary achievement with the tech of the day, which I've revisited many times since. 🏆

I was also unaware of Luke Arnold's 2020 Fractalus remake - just downloaded to have a play on my Mac later. 😎
